New member with a problem......

Hello everyone, I am a new member who allowed a valet to park my 2005 Jeep Cherokee and now my jeep will not go into park I am not sure what they did to it but I am trying to fix it at home and need to get into the gear shift handle. The jeep drives fine and shifts fine while driving but I must put it in N and pull emergency break to park Any suggestions????

Re: New member with a problem......

Is it physically not going into park or electronically not? If the shift lever doesn't move to the left into the park notch it is not seeing park and one thing that can commonly prevent this is when the rubber slide cover tears and gets all sideways. Electronically you may have a problem with your ESM (electronic shift module). The no park is not really common but ESM failures are that can produce a number of symptoms.

If its electrical you may want to turn the key off (obviously you cannot reach "lock" then disconnect the battery for a couple minutes, reconnect the battery and retry to shift the vehicle to park.

BTW, welcome, sorry its under these circumstances!
