New Summit Owner for Atacama

2017 Summit on order with skid plates. The tow hook installation guidance given here is impressive as I prefer to have those for a big trip to South America next year. I have driven in the Atacama and northern Argentina so I have an idea of what to expect. Don't plan to do anything hard core, just want to have reserve capability. The 20" wheels will be the first thing to go. I'm planning on 18", same as the Overland, and some quiet, smooth riding but rugged tires. Any suggestions on wheel/tire replacement?

Not sure if this was considered in the recovery hooks install threads. I believe the cameras for lane assist are mounted in the little grills that need to be removed.

So do those cameras prevent or impair the ability to install tow hooks? I could make do with a receiver hitch for the rear and nothing on the front, but I'd prefer a solid tow attachment.

Dealer told me that the Park Assist used the sensors in the bumpers and these were cameras that look for the lines in the road, for Lane Sense. I couldn't find anything specific from any reliable source.

If these are for Park Assist, where does Lane Sense get its information?

Maybe when Jeep comes out with a full Owner's Manual they will have something for us.

Whatever they are, it looks like tow hooks could interfere with their operation. If the systems are available on an Overland with ORII, I guess everything would work.

The cameras for that should be up in the windshield in front of the rear view mirror.

Re: New Summit Owner for Atacama

Alternative to tow hooks what attachment points are best to attach a recovery strap on the front of the vehicle? My expectations are that high clearance will be mandatory, 4WD handy on occasion, and recovery hopefully will be only to rescue others. I expect to be able to use a rear receiver shackle in most cases.
