New to the community - looking at purchasing a 2014 SRT8 - any advice?

Hey guys,

I just joined your forum today and have been researching the 2014 Grand Cherokee SRT8 and pretty sure this is going to be my next new ride! I currently have a fully loaded 2008 VW Touareg V8 (air suspension, locking differential, comfort/sport suspension, active cruise control, etc). The VW has been great to me but I'm ready for an upgrade...plus I despise taking it to the local VW dealer her in Burlington, VT...nothing but an attempt to upsell you EVERY time on something I don't need!

In any case, I'm curious to hear from current/past SRT8 owners! What type of shock am I in for when it comes to maintenance? I'm assuming the brake jobs have to run in the $2000-$3000 range? What about the new "Launch Control" and warranty issues? I doubt I'm going to use it very often, except to scare my friends! But I love the idea of the Hemi engine and HK sound system (currently have a 500w JL audio amp and 10" 10W7 JL sub in a custom enclosure).

Now that they've moved the center pipes to allow for a full tow package, I'm thinking this Jeep should be plenty of power to tow my 2011 Supreme V226 wakesurf boat (which is around 5500lbs loaded up with fuel and gear).

What should buyers of the new 2014 SRT8 be aware of?

Thanks for any/all responses!

Greg

As far as service goes I pretty much DIY anything that is considered routine. Oil, brakes, ext. the srt uses synthetic so dealer changes will be a little more, $150 maybe? As far as brakes go depends on if you use oem brembo replacements or other aftermarket. Compared to German cars I would anticipate service to be less expensive. Others who have had theirs longer will be able to offer better insight as I'm only at 5k miles. From what I have seen tires seem to be a pretty quick wear item although I'm sure a lot of it depends on the type of tire used and the style of driving. So far I love mine and would do it again if I had the choice.

Thanks for the response jb...which brings up another question!

I live in Burlington, VT...today it's -10 today, gonna be a high of -3...so yeah, I'm going to want to swap out those rims/tires from November until April since they heavily salt and sand the roads!

If there's any recommendations on the best set of winter tires/wheels to go with, would love to hear about those too?

I'll let the guys who actually have snow give you much more detailed information but the WK1 (first gen SRT) replica wheels seems to be popular as winter (and also summer in the 22" size) wheels. Check out blackopsautoworks.com (supporting vendor) for them as Chad has the best pricing. There are also a few threads if you do a search where specific setups are shown with tire sizes, brands, ext.

the 14 Jeep SRT is an awesome vehicle! The maintenancne is dirt cheap compared to euro cars/suv's. Don't pay the dealer prices for the penzzoil. I get it on amazon for half the price and use a K&N hgold filter($11 at local parts store) If you buy oem....replacement parts will be a tad more....like the brembo pads. The brembo pads are awesome.....but very dusty. I changed mine right away to a hawk hps/stoptech combo. No dust and 1/3rd the $$$ of the oem brembo pads. OEM brembo rotors are about $800...but their aftermarket brembo sports are about $800 as well....and a higher quality IMHO. You will pay a little more for jeep service...but nowhere near euro/jap service.
