Re: New Used Jeep Owner
Hi everyone. Had a problem today, and wonder if anyone can offer insights. Had traveled at highway speeds for about an hour and made a 5 minute stop. When I came out, the Jeep wouldn't start; no turnover, just a single click like a solenoid. Very, very briefly displayed 'transmission over temp' where the compass direction/ext temp is normally displayed. Took me 2 or 3 attempts to even read it. After about 15 minutes, started, ran, and shifted normally. Same thing happened about 10 minutes later; no start, wait 20 minutes, then start and ran/shifted all normal. Just left it running while I completed 3 or 4 more errands, then the same thing when I shut it off. Apparently I can't check the tran fluid. Talked to local dealer, and they said bring it in and they'll check the codes. Problem is, I had a problem with this dealer on a Lincoln 10 years ago; they did a lot of very questionably necessary and unauthorized work. I paid, but wasn't happy. Small town here, and they are my only option; my local shop says a dealer has to check/service the tran fluids. Is this correct? Any suggestions for something else to try. I feel like it may be bad signals from a sensor or the computer? Help is greatly appreciated.
