Newbie from Oklahoma

I am not new to Jeeps, I learned to drive in a new Jeep just after WWII. A few years ago I became a Jeep owner and now drive a 2010 GC Limited, 4 wd with Hemi. This '10 GC has been to the New Mexico mountains towing a 26 ft travel trailer. The '05 GC towed this trailer to Colorado and to the Washington DC area.

Re: Newbie from Oklahoma

I was around 10 years old when dad bought one of the first Jeeps available after WWII. We lived on a farm in northwest Oklahoma with at least 10 miles of dirt roads to the nearest improved roads. With the first 4wd vehicle in the area, Dad took many farmers into places they had never been except with horses. One Saturday Dad drove the Jeep thru a gate into the pasture with feed for cows. He got out told me to drive and climbed into the back of the Jeep. No instructions, just turned it over to me with the transfer case in low range. I just started driving. Later I learned his normal method of feeding the cows was to start the Jeep across the pasture then get in the back and feed the cows, so a kid driving wasn't much different.
At one time the roads were so muddy and filled with deep ruts from oil field trucks that the Jeep was the only way we could get to town for church and supplies for several weeks often with our entire family of mom, dad and four boys. The deep ruts and narrow track of the Jeep resulted in driving with one side down in a rut and the other up between the ruts. Occasionaly it would slide and switch sides. I don't remember getting stuck on a road in the mud at anytime. We enjoyed the Jeep and it was a sad day when dad sold the Jeep and bought a Jeep pickup with 4WD. He was overweight and his back was causing problems due to the rough ride in the Jeep.
The Jeep was good at plowing through snow, however if the snow was too deep, it would sort of raise up then slide for a little ways and stop with all 4 wheels spinning. It was then time to walk and get a tractor. At least a couple of times on frozen icy roads one front wheel would hit a frozen clump of mud and the Jeep would do a 180 real fast. Maybe this is enough old Jeep tales for now.
