Newest new guy!!!

Hey yall I just bought my 05 WK with the V6. I know I know but I'm crunched for time and got a sweet deal. Paid purchase price 12k and its got 44k miles. My insurance company values it at 15k (I profit if I total it And I'm gonna be hitting the 3600mile long trip up the ALCAN to alaska in May. I'll be stationed there for 3 years. To the questions, which I will move if they don't get answered in the BS forum.

It's -60 there for about 2-3 months a year. Sooooooo this whole 5w-30 all year round?? Does that still ring true as long as you keep the vehicle plugged in?
(O btw up there even like at retail stores there are 120V plugins for car to plug in to run the tranny heater, block heater, transfer case heater, and battery blanket) Basically same question for the 75W140 in the diffs. )

I know I have the "shitty" trim but I think it has the electric system for the auto 4wd. So i need the additive right? or no?

ps... The only offroading I've done SO FAR is jumping the curb at the reststop and leaving the "a jeep was here" signature all over the perfectly manicured Illinois state property. )))))))

Re: Newest new guy!!!

Welcome to JG. I'm not sure about the oil in temps that low, maybe someone else here knows about that. You could probably Google it or even ask the dealer. I think if you have an engine heater, you'd be OK. Good luck.

Re: Newest new guy!!!

using a lower first number is the way to go.

we get 0-20 and 0-30 here Mobil 1 here and it aint that cold.

block heater jeep seels them. might be something stealer installs for you. it goes in where a freeze plug is in the block. or buy aftermarket. they have a few different ones.

i think on the v6 you will find you DO NOT have the ELSD. but 05 is tricky first year did some things diff themn the next few years. there is a thread here where you can get a build sheet from jeep. lists most things so you know EXACTLZY what you have.

down in the 48 little need for all those other heaters: diffs, tc, trans, i would just find a place to do all that.

Re: Newest new guy!!!

Went to Chrysler dealer and got my build sheet by vin. I think they called it an options sheet. It tells everything about your vehicle. I had like 154 items listed compared to window stickers 45. Stay warm, ha ha.
