I am seriously considering purchasing a 2016 or 2017 Grand Cherokee with the diesel engine. I joined the forum to get more information than I can find via the Jeep online info. Thanks for all of your future assistance. I live in Northern California and now own a 2002 Audi A4 Quattro, a 2001 GMC Yukon Denali, and a 2010 Ram 2500 Cummins. This will be my first Jeep. Ed

I might as well tag along to this post as I'm in the same boat ... considering buying a 2014-2017 Jeep Grand Cherokee Overland or Summit 4x4 ... with the 5.7 Hemi or the V6 ? and I also joined looking for info and assistance in finding out if the lack of reliability claims should sway me not to consider the Jeep ? and opt for a used Range Rover or something ? But so far I REALLY like the JEEP ... and currently own two other Chrysler/Dodge products ... a 2002 Chrysler Sebring Convertible Limited and a 2004 Dodge RAM 1500 Quad Hemi, and I've had very good luck and reliability with them.

Thinking of trading in the Sebring and upgrading to the Jeep !

Thanks Ash ,

I bought a '15 Limited last year with the V6/8sp auto. I got it for a great deal as the 2016's were rolling in... I came from a long list of variety... 2013 F150 platinum, 2014 Jetta TDI, 2009 Subaru legacy 3.0, 2010 VW GTI w/~400whp, 2009 Accord V6, 2004 F350 diesel w/~800lb/ft tq... list goes on, that's about it for the last 6 years.. I currently own the Jetta TDI that i'll be selling back as soon as VW starts buying, an old beater GMC pickup, and this Jeep.

I do a lot with it and to be honest, the V6 has plenty of power to pull and get decent gas mileage. I debated this with a new Tacoma, and realized that the SUV would fit me better. I have a wife, a baby, and a couple of dogs. Plenty of room if I throw the cargo carrier on and go for a trip. I opted for the V6 and have no regrets; I've never lacked enough power to care, and for the $8k difference, it'd take me 20 years to make up the difference in fuel usage. I've used low range, hill decent, and every off-road "setting," each has a great utility to help you with the situation.

Tow capacity is limited by the vehicle - not the power. I feel "okay" pulling my boat however, I'll be buying a brand new GMC diesel 3500 because I want it, and that'll pull the boat from now on.

Pics for clicks... wish I would have taken some pictures DURING my last off-road adventure.
