Problems with 02 liberty

I have a 2002 jeep liberty 4 wheel drive 3.7L V6 that is cutting out at high rpm. If I barely give it gas it still runs like it has a miss but it runs and otherwise seems ok. If I'm trying to pull out into traffic or try to pass someone, it cuts out and starts lunging. I first thought it was a clogged catalytic converter but when I replaced it the problem persisted. The check engine light stays on all the time but when the rpms begin to rise the check engine light flashes until the rpms drop back down. I'm not sure what else to try and I need to get this done or at least doing better this weekend. It's my only way to work and my girlfriends only way to college. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

sounds like a misfire, a cel usually blinks for a misfire or multiple misfire. check all plugs and wires first, then coils if that doesn't fix it.

Re: Problems with 02 liberty

Check first which fault code(s) is set by the PCM. Don't know if the keydance works on aLiberty ( ignition switch off/run three times and leave in run at third time. Odometer will show Done when all ok, or a fault code(s). If this doesn' t work on a Liberth, you need to get it scanned.
