Looking to purchase my first JGC Diesel. Any advice on trim level would be greatly appreciated. Currently considering a 2014 Overland with 45K, one owner. Priced at $32K
I spoke with the owner regarding recalls. Specifically the shifter and the exhaust fix. He indicated that those updates had been done. No problems noted with the transmission. I am looking at an overland because that is what is currently available close to my residence. I have not taken it for a test drive at this point. Other than transmission issues should I be concerned about any other area. This is a 4X4
Well, there are some issues with the diesel and the SCR/DEF systems. Not saying that every one has a problem but if you look around in the diesel forums out here you'll get an idea of what some people have been experiencing with the 14's.
We're also waiting to see what the class action suit and EPA investigation into the EcoDiesel turns up.
Thanks, I will visit the diesel forum and read those threads. Also can I determine when the vehicle was manufactured by the vin number? Owner purchased the vehicle late December 2014. Where any changes made during the 2014 build that would have resolved some of the problems with DCF and Tranny?
The VIN will only tell you the year of manufacture. The actual build date is found on the door jamb decal. Based on the purchase date, I really couldn't tell you what issues had been addressed by the factory by that time.
Took your advise and went on the diesel forum. Lots of helpful threads. With the JGC having 45K I should still have some protection under the remaining warranty. My only challenge is making sure the shop I will be using for service has competent tech.
