Removing the engine from WJ

Hi All! Looks Like you have a great site here. Glad I found it. I have unfortunately managed to cook the engine of my WJ, Little or zero compression both sides, so figure the engine will have to come out and be rebuilt. My question is : Can I remove the engine on it's own or should I remove the transmition with it

Re: Removing the engine from WJ

Hi welcome aboard! Sorry to hear about your trouble, being a new boy to Jeeps myself I really don't know for sure but I know way back in the past with different cars I've tinkered with it was possible to remove the bolts from the bell housing on the gearbox then slide the engine block forward to clear the main shaft then up and away leaving the gearbox in situ as long as you've got room in front of the engine compartment with the radiator removed etc, I suppose it would depend on how the engine mounts are situated too! I'm not much help really I'm afraid but i'm sure there will be someone along who knows what they are talking about! Best of luck.
