t-case swap

Hey i have a questions i have a 99 grand Cherokee im looking to swap transfercases i have the 247 now wanting to go to a 242. So my question i cant find another jeep to take it out of can i use the 242 from a dodge durango.

i dont see why you couldn't. as long as your trans is the same as an early 2000's durango it should bolt up. the hard part i would say is getting the electronics to play nice.

Never thought about it but what about from a 4.0 wj I have the 4.7 or is that a different set up

Re: t-case swap

Eventhough the 4.0 uses the 42RE transmission and the 4.7 the 5-45RFE, the T-case should bolt right up to either one of these transmissions.
You will need a different rear prop shaft and shifter assy. There is no electronics involved in the 247 nor 242 T-cases. The only thing is that the 242 has a position sensor, which will not be used on your jeep.
