Trailer towing 3200 lbs.
I recently purchased a 2014 Grand Cherokee Limited 3.6Pentastar VVT V6 Gas, and added a dealer-installed Jeep class IV hitch receiver, and wiring harness, which appears identical to the factory install. It's the heart of the Cherokee's optional "Trailer Tow Group IV Packaqe."
My concern is that the factory-installed trailer tow group IV also includes "heavy-duty engine cooling" and "load-levelling suspension". I do not have these features.
This Jeep is rated for towing 6200 lbs, with the trailer tow group IV. But I've read that without the full tow package, the Jeep's tow capability drops to 3,000 lbs, or slightly less than our towable RV.
I'd like to know if the 6200 pound capability claim is only valid with the full tow package (especially the heavy duty engine cooling.) If so, can a dealer add the heavy duty engine cooling capability. Our previous 4X4 (2002 V-6 Pathfinder) boiled over climbing the mountains of the Cape Breton Highlands. We'll be again travelling the beautiful Cabot Trail, and want to be assured such an engine event won't happen again.
