V6 4x4 or V8 4x2

I know this might be a "stupid" question as do believe that a true JEEP should be 4x4...HOWEVER, I am coming from a 2008 M3 (V8 as well) and after a few shenanigans, wifey is putting foot down and I "kinda" have to get an SUV haha...
I am considering a Limited, 4x4, V6, Luxury Group 2 and 20"s OR Overland, Hemi, 4x2
Anyhow...I live in Austin and I am PRETTY sure I wont see much off road action and I do appreciate the fun of driving a powerful RWD vehicle...so, to owners out there, these are some points I am considering:

- Given it is a very heavy vehicle, I presume tons of understeer on a 4x4?
- Gas mileage not really a concern as I know that you really need to punch the V6 in order to get some go (hence defeating the whole purpose of smaller and more economic block)
- Resale value retention

Any feedback from personal experience greatly appreciated!

Cheers

Re: V6 4x4 or V8 4x2

how about V8 4x4 since you don't care about mileage. In Austin the 4x2 might not hurt the resale not sure. but in many places the 4x2 will hurt resale, not all but most buying a jeep want the 4x4. I would have a hard time parting with a the v8 or the 4x4 but everyone is different I guess

Get a V8 4x4. It really doesn't cost that much more and the 4x4 gives you the security of having it if you need it. Also 4x2 Jeeps are stupid and shouldn't exist in my opinion.

Also, remember that the JGC is not "sporty" in any configuration but the SRT.

Re: V6 4x4 or V8 4x2

If money is not a major concern, I would hit the 4x4 V8 Overland.

The $ difference between a LTD Lux II and Overland is only around $1,500 (hitch and similar options), so with the Overland you are also getting an "upgraded" interior and QL (plus other little things).

Then it comes down to the engine, which I'm not certain, but I think is a $2,500 difference.

For what it is worth, I have the V6 4x4 Overland and decided the person in front of me was screwing up my commute, , , , , I have no idea why people say the V6 lacks power

I also agree with the why buy a 4x2?
Again, if money is not a real concern, I'm guessing that is a $3,000 option? I'd rather have it in case of flooding, mudding, tornado effects, whatever Texas needs 4x4 for.

Thank you guys... Yeah, I guess difference is not huge so ideally V8 4x4 overland is the ticket... I think it is a mental block paying 50k for an SUV when there are so many options out there for that $.
We shall see

As for the other options:

-RR Evoque and Audi Q5- nice (the RR is nicer than the Audi) but smaller, no off-road ability, both slower than the JGC V8 (the Audi can be optioned so that it is faster, but will cost around $60,000 to get it optioned comparatively (even more if you go for the SQ5)
-Porsche Macan- very nice, fast, handles exceptionally, but gets well above $50,000 very quickly (it is ~$50,000 with no options, and not much is standard)
-Lexus RX- nice, but extremely feminine, fairly boring, not sporty, and no off-road ability)
-Lexus GX- more expensive, not as nice, handles hideously, incredibly slow (I have one so I would know)
-BMW X3- smaller and worse in every way (and likely more expensive)
-BMW X5- nice but more expensive
-Mercedes ML- more expensive, not that nice until you add a ton of options
-Mercedes GLK- smaller, probably pretty nice (I haven't really looked)
-Acura MDX and RDX- extremely boring
-Cadillac SRX- nice but smaller, a little outdated
-Anything from a non-luxury brand- absolutely not, don't even look

If I think of anything else, I will update the list.

For the money and what you are getting the jeep is actually a good price. Range Rover would be the one to compare to in off road abilities and they can be nearly twice the price. If you don't care about off road ability at all as maybe you don't because you were considering a 4x2 there are cheaper options in midsize suv. maybe you just want a base box Hyundai SUV to get you from A to B or something like that.

You sum it up quite well man...you are correct. This would be my first Jeep and American car ever (I've had VW, Audi, BMW, Porsche) and I have to say the build andinterior quality is outstanding.
I am signing the deal today I think and if dealer gives me a good incentive, shooting for 4x4 V8 Overland...
Have a great weekend dudes...
Cheers

I beg to differ on the Audi.
The Q5 comes with a supercharged 3.0 with 272hp which will do a 1/4 mile in 14.2 secs
The SQ5 with 354hp runs it in 13.5.

The Hemi non SRT Jeeps are all around 15 sec.
That's more like 2.0T territory.

IMO the Hemi isn't worth it. I'd go with the 4x4 V6 unless you're going with the SRT8.
It has plenty of power for an everyday driver.

Depends on what type of driving you do most of. I can get 25 mpg on the highway out of the hemi the v6 doesn't do much better than that. In city driving the v6 would of course be better. also depends on what you may be towing and maybe mileage isn't a concern but maintaining speed over that next steep grade is were you would want that extra you get from the hemi or diesel. Hemi isn't worth it to you but everyone is in a different situation with different needs and wants

In most situations it's more so a preference more then a necessity.
If that wasn't true the SRT8 wouldn't sell so well.

If I had to guess id say 95% of JGC owners will never tow to capacity.
I'm one of those as I only ordered the tow package for mountain bike hauling.
