Talking WJ 4.7LTR engine considerations.

I trust everyone is enjoying happy Jeeping!

A couple of things are bothering me with the performance of my WJ Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo, (aside that is, from having to either endlessly speak or write that mouthful of a description of what I drive when communicating with others!)

The Auto Transmission is jumpy and jerky in spite of it being recently serviced by the local Jeep service centre. The engine misses and jerks even when running on cruise control.
Now I am not a qualified mechanic so I wont try to come across as a know it all fixit man. However I do have a reasonable understanding of things mechanical and electrical having been an Electronics Tech for some 50years.

So I have assessed the present situation and done a write up with some suggestions and links. I am including here so as to offer it for consideration by others more qualified than I who might like to comment or add to it so that it can be shared by others who are not so experienced and may be looking to pick up on a few topics. Here goes:-

I've been checking out the performance of my Jeep and am not happy. The oil kind of looks a bit dark and of questionable viscosity. The engine misses, even when on Cruise control and because of that I know that contributes to poor fuel economy and engine overheating.
So I did some research and am going to attack what I figure might be the most likely causes.

1. Change Engine Oil - (Diesel Flush) and use a top quality one for the V8
2. Change the Oil Filter.
3. Fit a dual Airfilter on the intake using a split pipe inlet with two cone filters.

4. Replace all Fuel injectors with 4port atomizing jet type ones. FORD XF2E equivalent.

5. Replace all spark plugs with multipoint Iridium type.

6. Have larger diameter exhaust pipe fitted.

Here is a link to an interesting article along with a video clip showing the difference in fuel delivery to the engine using Multiport Atomization and Standard Single Port Jeep Stock Injectors.

Hope this helps some, and gives others the chance to correct me or give some advice where I might have made wrong assumptions or judgments.

Cheers.....and "Jeep! Jeep!"
