There's a big difference between them. The 7424 isn't made by Black & Decker.

Just my opinion fellas.
PC used to make the best hand routers, Now they feel like cheap "made in china" plastic.

Re: The Brand New Porter Cable 7424XP is in stock at DetailedImage.com

Ya a couple years ago, They bought out Pentair's tool group ( DeVilbiss, Oldham, Delta/Porter Cable)

I assume they had to get rid of the competition Dewalt had.

They did own FLEX too, But dropped them after a bit. do a google search on it. I remember hearing all about it when it happened!
It sucks for people in my trade Delta/PC made some great quality tools.

Is the Porter Cable 7424XP motor multi voltage? We use 240V ac in Australia.

The new unit is designed to work on the 120V outlets. I know some of international customers have used converters with it on different outlets but I have no personal experience with it.

My general thoughts on the PC 7424XP is that it definitely feels like a quality tool. The exterior is plastic so it may feel like plastic but I don't think it feels cheap to me. It feels steady in your hand and can take quite a beating for a long period of time. Certainly they have had a few problems but by in large it's a very reliable tool. I've sold thousands of them with minimal complaints. My only complaint on the old PC is that it had one plastic piece that did rattle but it didn't affect the performance. As I noted in my post Porter Cable even enhanced the warranty giving you a 90 day money back guarantee, 1 yr warranty and 3 year limited warranty. I don't buy a lot of tools but there are very few things I have bought recently that offer that kind of warranty to back up their product. Let me know if you have any other questions.
