I learned first hand that the best modification for offroading is armor!
Best in quality and looks is 4xGuard.com. They hold up to extreme crawling and have a great powdercoat that holds up very well, i will post pictures of my armor once i get a chance.
Feel free to ask any questions
I've seen the armor that 4xguard offers for the rear.. I don't really like the look of that but the rest of their products look/perform great imo.. is there anything else out there for rear protection?
So far he is the only builder for the WK community, i which others would build cool stuff for us. The rear HC skid is the only thing available, not for long i hope.
You seem to be a man in the know. I'm considering keeping my Ltd when the lease is up and making a fairly big transforamtion as it would no longer be my daily. I wonder what lift you'd suggest? I know there are several issues when lifting due to stability control.
Now, please bear with me ok
My thoughts are to lift it as much as possible (4"?), and to keep my 22 x 9.5" wheels and put the largest aggresive tire on that will fit. I'd then fit it out with armour etc.... what are your thoughts and suggestions..... don't hold back if I'm being silly mate
No such thing as silliness benno, i would love to see a lifted rig on nice 22's with some Nitto's.
I would recommend a Supelift 4'' with the EGR module to keep the stability control tamed. The lift keeps jeeps stock geometry which will feel like stock. The lift can handle a 34.5'' tall tire with minor trimming on the infamous uni-frame pinch weld. 33'' are better in my opinion.
For tires, i would look into Nitto's dune grappler in 305/45/22 since it's the closest to 33'' on a 22'' rim.
BDS is also another well built system, it looks like the SL but the only difference it's out back. The BDS has adjustable upper and lower control arms which eliminate the need for relocation brackets like the once offered on SL's system (with brackets, you will have more metal sticking out which means rocks will love you)
The down fall of the BDS is that they don't offer a EGR module to correct the stability control like SL has. you can always purchase the SL with the BDS upper and lower control arms for a great setup.
So, a BDS system with the an EGR mod from Superlift would be the go?
Whats the general experience with reliabilty off-raod? I've read there's been a few front CV's broken, is this a common fault when running big tires?
I'll admit to being a bit of a rapist off-road, nothing's too tough to have a crack at if you know what I mean
Edit: just re-read it, so Superlift kit, with BDS arms, and Superlift EGR is that right?
Honestly, our IFS is pretty strong compared to any other system so it's not that easy to break it unless you are trying to break.
It's all common sense when wheeling and it's very important to have a spotter for your safety and your vehicles safety. if you try to do some extreme rock crawling, then you are asking for trouble. take it slow and stay away from small puddles that might seem a few inches deep and end up being feet deep! LOL yes, i am talking from experience! LOL What i do on some unfamiliar trails, i will walk it before i wheel it, make sure you have over passes in case if the trail has sections built for vehicles that require winches.
One rule that should be followed even by pros is, never wheel alone! it can be very dangerous.

That is correct.
Yeah I've wheeled plenty before, in a variety of machinery. Drowned many, broken countless axles, even rolled one quite impressively So the driveleine is pretty strong? I ask because these elec locking diffs make some wicked noises and groans when giving it a hard time on the beach.
Keep it stock. Once you lift it its never enough, and then you want bigger tires and bigger lift and more HD parts and it never ends and next thing you know your divorced, living in your jeep eating spam trying to figure out where money for more lift and bigger tires uis going to come from. Just say no.
Haha your right about no being big enough!! i did love my RRO lift and 32's
Best performance on and offroad.
Blackpepper, i would recommend you go with the OME lift if you really want the best in small lifts, RRO is very good but they take waaaay to long to ship since they bull *hit you around. not to mention there harsh shocks that they offer!
Ben, it is very normal for the gears to make noices, i been on wranglers and xj's which do the same thing. our suspension is superior and if mixed with a proven lift, you will be just fine.
Hey Acid...any idea where the cheapest place would be to get the mopar skids. My jeep didn't come with them and I've been wanting them. I've come close to needing them quite a bit too.
i got the front one at the local dealer. i printed a price from an online place, sans shipping. they matched the price within a buck and I didnt have to pay shipping for a 20 pound front skid.
point is, with the weight, if you want mopar ones, try local first.
