Gears

Is it possible to swap in 3.73 gears from a hemi into my 3.7?
I know there isnt really an aftermarket option for the wk so i assumed these would help with the 265/70 tires.

Re: Gears

Yes it should work, you'd need to get the computer reflashed or you'll have big issues but since it's a optional stock ratio, that should be no problem.

Re: Gears

I am not so sure... Maybe... but it I would not be so sure.

Maybe its been done already so maybe its for sure a yes and I am just uninformed (quite likely), but consider the hemi is only mated to the QDII system... I am thinking its highly unlikely that the ring will mount to your carrier, and there likely isnt room for the QDII carrier and gears in your case.

Re: Gears

Dealership is the only place i'd know to get them new, but you might be able to find a set from a wrecked truck somewhere for way less.

Yes the QDII is a different system but the ring and pinion are the exact same size between the two. The carrier does have the ELSD but that won't affect the r&p setup.

Re: Gears

i am pretty sure 4.7 have 3.73 gears and they have the same axles as a 3.7 so they should fit no problem.

Re: Gears

Awesome thanks for the help guys! Might be the summer project to help that v6 work a little easier!

Would the dealer have to flash the comp for the gear switch or is that something that the Aev EGR programmer would handle?

Re: Gears

You'll need the dealer to reflash for the gear ratio. The AEV module will adjust for tire size but that won't work for the gears. The ECU sees the output side of the trans and of course the wheel speed sensors,it will recognize that the wheels are not turning the proper speed and give you major trouble. Another guy over on JU did it on his CRD and the vehicle went into limp mode almost immediately.

Re: Gears

It will not work w/o the whole axle swap. The Hemi WKs have a D44 rear axle with ELSD and the 3.7 and 4.7 Wks have a Chrysler 8.25 rear axle. The only way to make it work would be to buy complete axles from a 4.7 Wk with 3:73 gears and swap them in. You could try and buy new factory 3:73 gears and install them in your axles but it will cost just as much to to that as to buy complete axles.

There are no after market companies that make gears for the Wk either.

Re: Gears

I e-mailed Jeepingbyal about the Dana30 they have for the KJ asking if they could make a one off for me for my WK so i can gear it to 4.56, I know the rear should be no problem to gear. Just an idea if you are interested and know there are other options.
