Homemade WK2 Lower Guard

ForumRunner_20150530_195214.jpg

It's not pretty but should do the job of protecting the radiator and QL compressor.
It doesn't offer any protection to the lower part if the washer tank.

Made from 3mm galvanized steel & M6 bolts. No welding.

Removes/installs in under 5mins.
I will paint black so should blend in.

I'm doing a 3day offroad trip next weekend and needed something.

Looks very good, in my case still waiting for Bill (Chief Products) to have the lower guard available for purchase...its taking very long but hopefully someday it will happen.

Please send this to me when you're back! I need it bad! Took off that air dam because the manual said to for off roading (shudder to think at trying to put it back on!) and omg look at what will get torn up off road! .... Not to mention how the already flimsy bumper now just flaps in the breeze.

Seriously, bigskiddy, nice looking job. Does it fix the bumper problem? Can't tell from the photo, but you are inspirational. I'm going out to my shop now and see what I can dig up. I'm a carpenter so maybe I'll use wood ... kidding!

Thanks,
DCPorter

Here's some further pics.

Main section is 50mm x 3mm angle, so it is fairly sturdy.

It attaches by two M10 bolts through my Chief Revovery Points. I take it off when not offroading. But gives needed protection to the radiator and QL compressor.

Re: Homemade WK2 Lower Guard

Looks great, bigskiddy. Many thanks for the info and pics. Not sure what you mean by the "Chief Recovery Points." ??
Have you considered making this and selling for us other off-roaders? I would definitely be interested.
Do you re-install the stock plastic air dam for highway?
thanks again.

I'm from Australia and unlike the US Jeeps we don't get tow hooks, nor do the Mopar ones fit. So a local company Chief Products has produced some.

Check them out here. http://www.chiefproducts.com.au/coll...s/products/new

They also produce a great lower guard which allows you to refit the plastic bumper back on.

I would love their lower guard but my wife wasn't keen on me spending the cash on it. It took me probaby 15hrs to produce mine, at least half if that was spent looking at the car thinking how to contruct it.

In reality would have been cheaper to get the Chief one.

Many thanks. I have contacted Chief and will wait to hear from them. Pricey maybe, but I have studied my rig long enough! Have to get out in the rock/mud/sand !..... without destroying that radiator, etc. ! Hope make it to Australia one of these days.
