Re: Jeff's "Black Widow" Build

I will install plates (and perhaps rails) just for safety's sake. I'm in no rush, take your time with it.

Thanks! I ordered all the black trim off of JustforJeeps.com. And yes, as far as I know all the grills are exactly the same for every trim level. I actually changed both the grill inserts and the grill rings to black on mine.

Jeff, does the RRO prerunnner come off easily if you wanted to put lower fascia back on while driving around town? I thought I read its only on by 5 bolts.

While it is only 5 bolts, it is not easy for me but it could be for you...let me explain...

3 of the 5 bolts you mentioned connect at the bottom (where the sump cover attaches). These are very easy to remove.

The other 2 bolts attach the pre-runner to the front mount winch kit (the new frame). These are the hard part. The nuts for the bolts are accessed from the underside of the pre-runner through the holes in the pre-runner, simple enough. The tops of the bolts are very hard to access. The problem is that the winch is in the way. If you had no winch it wouldn't be near as bad. The way I removed mine when I had to (in order to install my new Chief Sump Protection Plate) was by popping out the grill inserts (I didn't want to have to take of the all the stuff on the front of the bumper and remove the whole bumper again), then I had my brother-in-law reach in and get a wrench on the bolt heads (the drivers side was easier than the passenger side). I had to have him do it because mine and my dad's arms were too large, so if you aren't a pretty small guy, you may need some help from the wife or a child. One of the things that made it hard was the size of the wrench we had to use because the bolts are pretty big. If you had something smaller than the large wrench we had it might be easier to maneuver in there and make the whole thing easier. Also, other models of winches might be set up a little differently, it might make it easier, it was really the connections to the winch that were in the way. I hope this helps! Let me know if you have any other questions about it.

Re: Jeff's "Black Widow" Build

Jeff how is the ACC/FCW working now that you have several months running.

Also, you mentioned you would have made a design change to ACC cover you had fabricated, what changes would you have made?

Thanks chuck

Impressive... I just hit 40mki on my 2014 Overland Hemi and I would like to start modding to get some time of road... You have given me far too much to lust after.

Re: Jeff's "Black Widow" Build

Awesome build! These forums are the reason I am always out of money, haha!

I am looking to add some rock sliders to my 2015 Summit, and you have now tried two of the contenders, the third ones being the Uneek 4x4 ones.

Do you per chance have any pictures of how the MOPAR rails turned out? I am wondering how they look with the Summit’s fender flares.

As awesome as the Summit’s are, Jeep really did give us the short end of the stick with making it not very off road worthy from the dealer lot, when it comes to the omission of skid plates, front tow hooks and the lower and harder to remove front facia.

That said, it’s still a lot of fun to customize them, as you have done very well!

This is another awesome mod thread, I still did not see pictures of the lights, but maybe I missed them.

The ACC/FCW still turns off for a few minutes from time to time but it is only like 2-5 minutes that it won't work and then it's right back to working perfectly. While a little annoying, it doesn't really bother me.

As far as the cover, I would have made the tabs a little bigger (it's hard to get some sockets on the head of the bolts that hold the cover on) and I would have probably tried to make some aesthetic changes but it does look ok the way it is and I would worry about the loss of protection with some of the changes I would try to make.

I will try and put up some pictures soon but here is one of my Jeep we took the day after Thanksgiving when we did a short trail from Hemet up to Pine Cove. It is from a little bit further away but I will get some close ups on here when I get a chance.
