I would honestly hold off on the wheel spacers at first.. just to look around more and see what you will need.. 1.5" may be too much...285s are a big tire..
check out the "lifted WKs" sticky thread started by AcidCold in the offroadmods section...theres a lot of pics there and you can see what other users are running.. I'm sure youll find some with the OME and 285s.. contact a few users who run that and ask if they run any or what spacer would be best for that setup.. i run the 1.5" bc i have 265 tires.. i think its too much for 285s though... spidertrax make a .5" i believe.. may suit your needs more.

and dont forget youll need to do the pinch weld mod to avoid rubbing on the wheel wells... 2 people to contact if you need more advice would be "omelet" and/or "mr.tosh"... they are probably 2 of the most knowledgeable guys on this thread when it comes to lifting and modding for lifts.

good luck with the lift. Make sure you post pictures when its all completed.
Sweet thanks for the help!

Will do brothuh!

Re: Lifts and tire size thread :)

I'm looking to put 17" JK wheels on my '08 Hemi and mount 265/70/17 Nitto Terra Grapplers.

Will a 2" coil lift and a 1/4" spacer be enough to clear everything?
I'm worried about passing inspection in PA with any wider of wheel spacer.

Thanks, I'm a newbie

I know the lift will be enough to fit the 265's up under there, might have to do the pinch weld mod. but have no clue on the spacers though.

Re: Lifts and tire size thread :)

typically the 17" moab wheels off of the JKs require a 1/4" wheel spacer to clear. You'll need to do the pinch weld mod most likely anyway you go... a lot of people run the 1.5" spidertrax for a wider more aggresive look... I couldnt see a big inspection issue with spacers...
where in PA are you?

Thanks. I'm in Bucks County (just north of Philly). If you're familiar with the area I plan on having JeffDaniel's Jeep do the work. He said I might have a problem with inspection at some places, but not there.

Re: Lifts and tire size thread :)

Nice. I bounce back and forth from Monroe and Lackawanna county. yea, I don't see many places having an issue with the inspection, especially if it's a place that you have brought the jeep into before so they know it and have done some sort of work on it.

I change my own oil, but bring it to a local Monroe who rotates my tires for free bc I dont have a jack and stands handy....I plan to bring my WK there in November for inspection. I don't think they will give me a problem at all.

I'm currently running stock 245/60R18 on WK 2009 5.7. Will be installing Bilstein shocks and RC 2" lift.

Zero_psi and others have stated 255/70/18 works fine with no spacers or rubbing, or 265/70/17 with 1.5" spacers, so assume the same tier diameter equivalent (31") of the 265s would be a 265/65/18 tire . I would like to go bigger with spacers (265/70/18), would I be ok on 265/70/18 without rubbing? and assuming I would need to do the pinch weld mod too based on the size+spacers ... trimming the UCA bolt is NOT an option for me. I'm not too keen on the p/w either, but have access to a very decent body shop that can do a very clean job if required.

Tire choice will be an A/T , Cooper/Wrangler/Dueller/Firestone etc - whichever I can get my hands on as supply here is random at best (took 6 months to get 1/2 decent run flats - P-Zero - for the wife's E92).

Sand dunes here are massive (google big reds in Dubai), so better go out there prepared Its getting kinda hot now so off roading in the desert becomes too uncomfortable (when stuck and have to dig it out in over 100 degrees), so have enough time to plan lift/tires for when it cools down again in October.

Goes without say, I do a wheel alignment after any tire change.

-Note, I had to edit this thread three times; tire options turns thread posts into pure waffle!! I suppose the general question is what is the largest DIAMETER size for a WK tire on stock 18" rims with the following options: 1) with 1.5 inch spacers 2) with 1.5 inch spaces AND p/w

Comments/feedback most welcome!

Baby steps will start with RC for starters (and get enough experience) and when i get an SRT8 as a daily driver then go for bigger lift ..

Actually decided to change the wheels too now as UCA bolt is about half inch away from tire on '09, don't want to run spacers and wont trim bolt. 17 pro comps look decent , maybe with 265/70/17 ATs.
