OME HD lift or no?

Hello everyone,

It has been a while since I have been on here (busy with getting out of the USMC and enrolling in school). I have a 2005 Wk 4.7 quadra trac II rocky mount edition. I has 100k miles on it so far and it runs great. I purchased a OME HD lift over a year ago and have been debating to install or not to install. I finally replaced all shocks and struts with the OME ones b.c i had a busted strut so i did them all. The issue I am having is its time to buy tires b.c the OEM tired are done and I do not wheel much at all. the most i may see is snow in DC maybe a trail 1 time a year. Is it worth the lift? will my MPGs be that affected that i will be disappointed considering how little i my off road. In addition I dont do much long distance travel in the truck and DC is all city so Im already gettin 11- 12 mpg avg. Any input would be great from anyone with OME lift.

PS the tires i was looking into were firestone destination AT. 265/70/17?

Re: OME HD lift or no?

Well you're gonna lose mpg that's a definite. What you lose tgem more from is the tires though. Its really up to how youre gonna use it. If you wont be offroad more than once a year i honestly wouldntinstall the springs. What you can do now is either do the Install of them anyway if you decide to. Go with the 265/70 and then purchase a tuner to calibrate for the bigger tires to help keep your mpg the same. If not you'll def drop 2-3 Mpgs. Since you installed the struts and shocks already you could always just sell the springs easy. And go with a little bigger tire than stock like a 255 or just a more aggressive AT tire in 245(stock).

This is speaking from my experience of having a 2"daystar lift and 265/70s I went from 19mpg to 16. A tuner would probably get me back to 18 but I don't wanna pay $300 for one. Ha. And the daystar is on the shorter side. The OME is on the taller side. Ps. If you decide to sell the springs, PM me.

Good luck deciding. Let us know the plans! And thanks for your service in the USMC

Re: OME HD lift or no?

Thanks so much for that insight. I needed to hear it from someone who has been there done that. I think your right I most likely will just run a slightly larger tire.

Re: OME HD lift or no?

I would get the Rustys leveling kit for up front to get her leveled out. Sounds like that would be more up your alley. It would maintain your current MPG, ride comfort and eliminate the stock rake.

Rusty's Spacers - Strut Plates (XK/WK)

As far as tire sizes goes, you could then look into 245's with a taller side wall to fill in the wheel wells for an improved look over stock.

Re: OME HD lift or no?

id sell the springs and get yourself a JBA or rustys strut spacer to level the front out with the rear and run a larger tire- maybe a 255/70. im in the same boat and have been for awhile now, had the full OME HD kit and sold it all off and am in the process of gathering parts to take her back down to a stock height from my daystar BB.

ive taken a hit going from a stock 245 to a 255 on moabs- the tunner helped for some time. but i went to a highway terrain tire thats a true 32" tire and less aggressive and i still havent gained back any MPGs. with winter blend right now im getting 14-15 highway. sucks.

Re: OME HD lift or no?

oh yea i completely forgot about winter blend fuel. I never figured this would have been so hard to make a decision on haha. I appreciate all the input from you guys. I didnt know they made a leveling kit that sounds like exactly what I am looking for. Much appreciated Gents.

Ps if anyone knows anyone or is interested themselves in my HD springs PM me. I know i could put them up for sale in forum but I am not an active seller... maybe I will put them up who knows.
