The Off-road Essentials

I didn't see a thread of off-road essential or things that you take or need every time you hit the trails. I want to use this thread to build a list of the essentials for your off-road trips . So post up your ideas from previous experiences or just the things you make sure you have every time out.

Im still new to wheeling the Wk but last time out the usuals of tip ties came in handy for my buddy(no damage for me knock on wood lol) to keep some splash guards on. One the things i would have never though of it a guy that helped us out used was part of a blue tarp so that when laying down on the ground you don't have to be laying in anything wet or muddy. I thought wow what a great idea and its probably something everyone has laying around.

Give you ideas and thoughts from your experiences!

Re: The Off-road Essentials

Don't forget; frosty beverages, snacks, fix-a-flat, extra jack, (stock one only goes up so high) and whatever else you feel you need.

Relwarc pretty much covered the essentials!

Enjoy, be safe and tread Jeeply!

This Tread Lightly is your #1 goal. No use in driving like a jerk, a 200HP 5,000 LB vehicle can cause irreversible damage to the land you're wheeling. So be safe!

Frank TJ is on a distinguished road
In following the tread lightly theme:

Container to catch fluids should you have to open your axles up to make trail repairs.

Folding camp chairs to sit in and heckle your buddy while he tries to trail repair his broke rig.

Detailed map of the area your wheelin on, especially important if your not familiar with the area.

Common failure parts for your rig. I used to always carry spare front axle u joints and axle shafts. Since I upgraded my front axle this is not an issue any longer.

Any special tools needed for your Jeep. Metric/torx/etc.

Knowledge of the trail system your on. Not cool to take a stock jeep on an extreme trail by mistake.

And the most important thing IMO. Make sure your Jeep is mechanical sound prior to hitting the trails. Nothing ruins a good day on the trail more than some idiot breaking down and then saying" I knew that was bad and I've been meaning to repair it"

Re: The Off-road Essentials

It's always a good idea to have a CB to let others know about whats ahead, or is someone is stuck. As you stated bring a couple tarps; I've been surprised how many times and different things I have used them for.

Extra gas, a chainsaw or axe if in wooded area, and I always bring a couple sleeping bags just in case something happens and you end up on an all nighter. I always bring electrical stuff too (misc wires and connectors). A 12v air compressor too, that way you can air down when needed.
