Tow Straps

I'm planning to do some light off roading and figured I should get tow straps. There are many different ones, and since I'm a newb - what should I look for in a tow strap?

This is what comes up on amazon -

straps

Which brand/type do you guys have?

Seems to have gotten good reviews I'm also pretty sure I don't want a tow strap with hooks. Could be very dangerous if it breaks loose.

Not sure what your jeep has, but I'm also looking at this as a step and rear recovery point.

I have that exact strap. Pulled a few people out of ditches in this past winter with it. No issues as of yet.

Thanks for that confirm. Do you know anything about the receiver towpoint/step I linked to. I guess if your using it as a towpoint you do a slipknot or something with the strap since it's a closed loop.

I don't know anything about the step. Obviously you're limited to a slip knot on only one side, and the vehicles I pull out almost never have hooks or a ball, so I just slip knot it around their axles. As for the contact point on my vehicle, I either put it around my tow ball or I put it on one of the tow hooks up front.

Re: Tow Straps

Thanks brentwoodkris, I figured it would be nice to have a step that also acts as a tow point and a rearend protector.

...isn't that what a towing ball is for? Ever since the last time I got rear ended in my WK, I've never driven without the ball.

Last time it totaled out a Mazda truck, puncturing the engine block after going through the bumper and radiator! I got a new receiver and hitch and had some minor paint/dent work. His truck was totaled on the spot!

Oh yeah, and of course you can tow things with it too!

I figured I'd get this step since it will serve multiple functions for me. Mostly hitching my bikes not towing much, but the ball does sound good, LOL.

This is my third GC and the 1st two were both rear-ended. My last GC a 2011 was rear ended by a van at a red light and pushed me into a jeep liberty who's spare tire hit me above the bumper and pretty much destroyed my jeep. ($20,000 damage) front/back. Do they make a ball for the front
