Re: Trail Run Plans/Reports

Went on a little road trip to Tuttle Creek Off Road Park on Sunday. It's north of Manhattan, KS - about 2.5 hours from us. We had a gang of family with three Jeeps between us. Tuttle is an awesome place to wheel for anyone and everyone. That's my cousin's KJ - bone stock/street tires - did pretty good - I was impressed. I was proud of her for bringing her Jeep. They needed winched out a couple times - but still Oh yeah, the dork driving the WK is me in all my no shave November moustached glory. But, everyone on my crew at the firehouse is doing it too so it's all in good fun.

The pics don't do the terrain justice, but what with the incline, the slick mud, and street tires at full pressure, wasn't gonna happen. The TJ is actually anchored to a tree to keep from coming down into the KJ. We ran out of space for the winch to be of benefit so we had to transfer the load to my hitch with a tow strap and come off the winch as I pulled to get 'em all the way up. Fun day!

Re: Trail Run Plans/Reports

So a week from today on Sat the 19th I am planning a wheeling trip out to Pancake Rock. It is about 45 min east of San Diego. Any one interested please let me know. It is a moderate trail so a lift and oversized tires along with skids is recommenced. For anyone interested here is a brief overview of the trail:

This map shows the area just east of El Cajon and south of Alpine. The RED arrow points to the trail head right off Japatul Lyons Valley Road.

This one is zoomed in a little to show more detail. The RED arrow is the trail head again, the GREEN arrow is the top of Pancake Rock, and the BLUE arrow is the rock garden on the back side.

This one is zoomed in on Pancake Rock. The bullseye is the peak, the GREEN dashes show the approach from the back side, and there are two ways up. The easy way is LIGHT BLUE and the more difficult way is DARK BLUE.

From there if you continue on the back side of the peak there is a nice sized rock garden. There are a few ways in and out, but the main way is marked with a RED arrow.

Now for some actual pics! While traveling south on Japatul Lyons Valley Road towards the trail head you can see the peak smiling down on you.

From the back side you can see the rock garden.

And the view from the top of Pancake Rock can be pretty nice

Those going so far include myself in my WK, my dad in his JK, a member from JF in his WK, and there are a couple other possibles. If you would like to go roger up and/or send me a PM. If you would like to go but don't want to bring your Jeep there will be plenty of empty seats and having extra guys/gals with cameras is always nice
