Re: What do I need to know before I lose my off roading virginity
If you are with a good group and have good spotters , they should be able to get you through most things .
a few tips
1 dont use the skinny petal unless you absolutely must. alot of people believe that whenyou get out there ,at every rock or bump you have to gun it.
spinning wheels and hopping will only lead to breakage . If you feel the jeep start bucking get off the petal.
2. let your jeep grow with your experience . I seen people with a super built rig but cant drive it for crap. just like building a house, If you have a good foundation ,the house will stand
3. always remember that everyone once started stock ( or close)
4. Respect the land you drive on!! on every trip we took , we would take trash bags . Not just for our own garbage but at stops , we would collect things left behind for others. If this is not done ,soon we will have nowhere to ride.
I would not be to concerned by what the wrangler guy said . Its just alittle bit of trail fun. dont look into it anymore then that .
Oh , there is always a chance of breaking things when offroading . If you know your jeep , you will be able to feel or hear when you are hurting it ,so dont have the stereo blasting .This way you can feel or hear if something is going bad
So just have some extra parts ( u joints , ball joints ,tie rods ,Etc) and tools with you, not only if you need them but if someone else might. This will gain you friends and trail credit ( if needed)
One last thing . for the first 10-15 miles after the ride ,when you are on your way home, Just listen to the jeep on the road. If something is loose you should hear it .
