Wheel Spacers

PLEASE STICK THIS, This topic has been popular lately. Edit as you wish mods to save our butts.


DONT BUY CHEAP EBAY SPACERS. Even the best known name brands have failed before.

Ive use them with out issues for years at a time but there are plenty of people that will fight against the use of spacers till their faces turn blue.

There are plenty of testimonials both for and against wheel spacers. USE AT YOUR OWN RISK!

Buy a good brand like spidertrax, Properly torque all spacer lugs and use blue lock tight on them. Re check the torque on all spacer lugs after 50 miles and 500 miles. I know its a pain but the can loosen. do the same check for the wheel lug nuts. Do NOT use lock tight on the regular wheel lug nut studs. check torque at 50 an 500 miles. These are the guide lines that were set forth buy the tire shop that i worked for. They are the best suggestion on spacer use but again USE AT YOUR OWN RISK, We are NOT Liable for anything.

Be warned, many tire shops WILL NOT install or service a vehicle with spacers. I was turn away from service many times with my old cherokee with 5" lift and 35" tires and 1.5" spacers.

I believe the torque for jeep lugs is 115 ft lbs but it might be different for newer Different Jeeps.

PLEASE DO NOT MAKE THIS A OMG YOUR GONNA DIE IF YOU USE SPACERS OR OMG I LOVE SPACERS THREAD, LET LEAVE IT AT THIS INFORMATION AND LET PEOPLE MAKE A DECISION BASED UPON THIS INFO AND OTHER THREADS.

I just installed Spidertrax 1 1/4, and they stated 80-90 ftlbs of torque to all the studs. I did 90. They are great looking and fit awesome. I am waiting to hit 50 miles and then a re-torque. I got factory TJ alloys and they hit my new Rugged Ridge steering components. But I totally agree if you buys spacers get hubcentric witch means they align to your hub and the back of your wheel.

That is the key right there! I ran 2"spacers on a F-250 with 41"x14.5x20 for years. Check the torque! I never had issues because I followed these simple steps. I also checked spacer torque at every tire rotation. If you don't it could end in disater.
PS: spacers will tend to put extra stress on wheel bearings due to the extra spacing. So they need to be checked from time to time.

I would imagine aftermarket wheels with negative offset will wear your bearings as well since the same spacing is being replicated.

Yes it will that's why staying as close to stock is best for the bearings but we gotta do what we need to if we want lifted jeeps with bigger tires and a wider more stable stance.

My 98 xj with a 3ubiconexpress 5.5" lift and 35s and 1.5" spacers needed new wheel bearings once a year some times twice but I put a lot of miles on it and wheeling. And I bought cheap store brand wheel bearings that came with a life time warranty so I only paid once. I was able to change out a hub in 30 minutes. I kept spares with all my other spare trail parts. Lol.

Its all about being smart and safe in the end. Its no different then checking tire pressure or torque on any part you would install.

Ahh Sh*t!!
i have the cheap ebay ones! lol
but to say the least they have held up great! and my friends dad said they are well machined!
also to add i never had much of any background with spacers, so when i first threw them on, i drove 1200 miles to mammoth and back. and did lots of offroading when i was there. i never thought once of checking them. and then 4000 miles after that i did a tire rotation and the suckers were tight as hell.
i never torqued them or added locktight! yikes lol
maybe next tire rotation i will pick some locktight for the the heck of it
and idk if its bad or not, but i put washers behind the spacer to help the push the wheel out a little farther.. i hope thats not bad?

Um yea, I'd say that's a reaally bad idea. I deff would never do that. Take them out. They make up to 2" spacers. I had 1.5" on my xj.
