What other components would be best to upgrade, gears for example, if I go with the wj? Just trying to get a good idea of what it's going to cost if I do decide to get a wj. I'm about to call the dealer and see what they're also willing to work out bc both wj's show there was a recall on the carfax. If they're willing to take care of anything that needs to be done then I may go with the wj. Otherwise ill probably go with a wk bc I've found some that seem well taken care of.

Re: Wj or wk

That I couldn't really tell you. Asking this same question on the WJ forum might get you some real answers from some guys that wheel theirs. All I know is that my original intention was to beef mine up before I decided at the last minute to go street. The vehicle was purchased with that in mind...solid front axle was very important along with the quadradrive and the HO motor. The recall might be the seat heaters, which I would strongly suggest AGAINST having done. From what I've been told, the replacements suck. The original seat heaters were recalled because they got too hot. Easy solution is to run them on LO, or shut them off if they get too hot.

Rear ends are Dana 44a's...and I'm not so sure you'd really need to worry much about re-gearing unless you got really big in the tire department. Seems to me a lot of guys are wheeling theirs without having swapped gears.

There is a current recall on WJ's for airbags ...parts aren't even available. If it is a recall and not a TSB then the manufacturer must repair the vehicle regardless of mileage or age.

Re: Wj or wk

I think youll like the WJ more. from a DD stand point, the SFA and is so much easier to lift and you can really dial that in for comfort with control arms, and such. lso the interior of the WJ is alot plusher than the WK. you will notice WK seats are alittle flatter and not as cushioned as the WJ. i miss the seats in my WJ. granted the interior of the WK is alittle more modern and crisper, but the interior on the WJ is no slouch.

i too would like to see a HO 4.7 up against a hemi WK, it would be close i think- the WJ weighs less and will def shit and get with that motor.

Cool Re: Wj or wk

Well lets see.... The 4.7 in the wk is better than the 4.7 in the wj...plus you can get a hemi in the wk.... the technology of the quadradrive 2 and quadratrac 2 in the wk is better than the wj... The wk handles better, rides better, has an 8% increase in front wheel travel over the wj sfa ,the wk is safer, more reliable and won't catch on fire if you get rear ended by another vehicle.... These are facts!!!! so unless you are strictly going to be rock crawling then the obvious choice is the wk with low range which means either a 4.7 or 5.7 wk... If you're just rock crawling then get a wj.... Very simple..... Now for opinions.... The wk exterior is better looking... The interior is crisp and better looking!!!

You say that like a hemi is a good thing...also you're wrong on the looks part,my WJ rides way better than the WK I drove and QTII and QD were available in the WJ as far as the WJ exploding when rear ended this happened on what 10 of over a million vehicles I bet that there are wks that did it too.

Re: Wj or wk

Exterior is kind if even as far as WJ vs WK. interior goes to WJ, they cheapened the interior of the WK. my WJ was 10 years old and the leather looked brand new and had not a single tear. My WK is 6 years old and I bought it 2 years ago and the leather seat was cracked/ripped. It's a common issue with WK leather.

Still would like to see a hemi Wk vs a 4.7 HO WJ

The leather in the WK blows but the rest of the interior is far nicer then the WJ, IMO. Especially if you wrap the wood trim.

Im sorry but you can't honestly tell me that a sfa rides better than an ifs.... Also I've heard great things about the hemi(see the post hemi bragging) i don't personally care for the hemi ... I chose the 2009 4.7 which is amazing which is different than the wj 4.7 as well as the 4wd systems are different from wj to wk even though they use the same names... The 4wd systems in the wk are the best jeep has made to date... (i don't care much for the wk2 or factor that vehicle in this conversation ) as far as interior the leather wood quality and instrument controls are better in the wk than the wj... The wj just has a plastic urethane dash which tricks people into thinking its higher quality even though its still just plastic in a different form... Fyi the grain texture in my plastic dash looks amazing and do i care if its hard? No it looks great while Im driving and Im definitely not massaging my dashboard while Im driving or on the trail so i could care less if its hard or padded.... The wk is not low quality like some who focus on dash materials will say... For all around performance on and off road the wk is by far the best grand that jeep built..it has just the right amount of Mercedes influence without going too far like the wk2 so like i said before if your rock crawling get a zj or wj for everything else get a wk... And if your just on the road all the time and care about whether a dash is padded or what color wood and leather jeep is coming out with get a wk2 though i wouldn't suggest it really (seriously look at the topics over on the wk2 board compared to here or the wj board most.... Not all.... But most could care less about how there wk2 performs on the trail....they have more important matters like what jeep brown will look like or if the wood trim is real or fake

I can say with 100% honesty my WJ rides better than the WK I drove when I bought mine. As to interior appearance it is all trickery whether tat trickery is hard plastic or padded plastic. I personally don't like the WK you don't like the WJ. To each their own.

I loved the WJ. Owned 2 of them and like all the jeeps I have owned, I wish I still had one. If I did I can promise you my WK would be pretty much stock.
That said, as a DD the WK is superior IMO. It drives better and you have the option of QDII and a HEMI. Both of which are better then anything that came with WJ.
Strictly off road the WJ has to get the nod because of the SFA and aftermarket support that the WK doesn't have.
I have said it once and I will say it again. The WK was made to go to the mall and soccer practice. Is wasn't made for going off road.
