When i put a 3' lift and 32's on the WK... the thing had a heart attack! warning lights, BING BING BING BONG WE"RE GONNA DIE.

the WK is a great platform, but it's a long ways away from the truly capable Jeeps of the past.

I don't mean to bash the WK platform. I'm on my second of the WK generation. I've just embraced the fact that the WK is a street machine... tee hee

I don't know too much about the WJ, but I know the aftermarket support is way better (no news in this thread, stated many times)

It comes down to taste. The WJ is going to be more like the older jeeps. Easier to mod, less... luxury, more... lego.
No offense but your logic is off.. You're comparing a stock wk with a modded wj which makes no sense.... The simple truth is stock for stock the wk with qt2 or qd2 will go anywhere a stock wj could go and the wk will be more comfortable and is superior to the wj on the road in every way..... Technology improves Jeep engineered the wk to be just as capable as the wj but to be better on road... Its called improvement!!! Now yes the wj has supermarket support for rockcrawling but who takes a unibody rock crawling....jeep didn't engineer any grand cherokee for rock crawling... The only unibody that makes sense for rock crawling is a cherokee and that's because those are ridiculously cheap as are parts for them... Sounds to me like that's more what you need than a wj... Or bite the bullet and get a 4 door wrangler!!!

Lol I appreciate everyone chiming in and giving there opinion. I've been out bc our second child decided to come early. A few days before she was born I drove a wk with the hemi, and although it was nice I decided that ride comfort would need to be last on the list for a rock crawler. The hemi definitely propels the wk with force but I'm not looking to race the thing. That being said, I've decided to wait a few months to find a good wj that has been properly maintained and hopefully one with the HO motor. If I am unable to find one by June then I will give up and buy a new wrangler unlimited. Too bad so many people neglect there vehicles. Finding a solid used car is too much work!

For what you are looking for, you are making the right decision IMO. I hope you find one your looking for and I look forward to updates and a build thread.

Congrats on the baby.

Re: Wj or wk

I second what Lucas said...

Oh, and just to keep the vigorous discussion going, I'm faily certain based on a little interwebbing that the HO is faster than the hemi anyway. Actually...fastest Jeep second only to the SRT's. That's just based on internet research though. You know...so you can get to the trail faster...ahahhaha.

Thanks Lucas J. Haha yea good thing about my wife is that she's all about power so I don't have to make excuses when looking for something that has a lot of it. I remember when we were searching for a family car I suggested a suburban or Yukon but she said she wanted the Denali bc of the 6.2! I didn't hesitate and we had a brand new Denali in the garage a few days later lol. She laughed at first when I put an airaid intake and got it tuned. Then she stomped on it to pass someone and was amazed at the difference. The look on her face was priceless lol. She does love the idea of a new wrangler unlimited though. Only time will tell

That was only produced for one year, right? I can't seem to find good info on it as far as 0-60 times. I'd imagine it would be damn close though. Looks like the HO has more horsepower, but the ZJ had a little more torque.

correct, 1998 was the only year they made the 5.9. back in its day i want to say it was the fastest SUV available at the time.

i would seriously like to see a hemi, 5.9 and a 4.7HO lined up. somethig tells me the HO would take it- given the horsepower to weight ratio

Re: Wj or wk

Me too...a 5.9ZJ, an HO WJ, and a Hemi WK, all lined up. That would be sweet to see.

I agree, I bet the WJ would take it too, but barely. I think the newer trans and the newer tech would be the only reason though.

I don't know that 5.9 was ridiculously fast.
