Hey Yakentao,

You can install our WK2 Sump Protection Plate on your Summit easily (without any cutting, drilling or modifications). It will provide protection for the critical underside of your sump and will probably provide sufficient protection for light off-roading.

If you're looking to do a bit more than the occasional beach drive or trail ride, I'd definitely recommend removing/replacing the OEM lower plastic fascia. It will be one of the first things you damage off-road. On Summit & SRT model WK2s the OEM lower plastic fascia is not designed to be easily removed for off-road driving like it is on other model WK2s. We've taken a close look at the Summit and with 20 minutes, the correct trim tool and a bit of patience it can be removed, but it's not something you'd want to do on a regular basis.

Our WK2 Lower Front Guard will fit on the WK2 Summit, but for it to be effective you'd definitely want to remove the OEM lower plastic fascia when going off-road.

I hope that helps!

Cheers,
Bill

I'm not sure which product you are considering installing. Is this the sump plate, or the lower guard?

For the Sump plate, we have just had a discussion about which is better over at AUSJEEPOFFROAD and it really depends.

Chief vs uneek bash plates - AUSJEEPOFFROAD.COM - AJOR

The uneek sump plate has mesh over the air holes, which some like. It also fits better with the uneek bullbar. But I like the Chief plate because fitting is easier (the uneek one needs drill holes into the cross member), I like the bolt head protectors and the design of the front fold around the front of the cross member looks stronger to me. Although some will argue the front bolts on the uneek plate are stronger.

In the end either should be fine for moderate offroading.

I have no idea which is the better plate and I don't think it matters. However, regarding the mesh over the air holes, I admit it looks cool particularly the cut out logo but what does it actually do? Yes, the mesh will stop stones flying up the air holes. However, the size of stones that would get through the air holes are unlikely to damage the sump. The bash plate is intended to protect the sump from landing on sharp boulders and rock outcrops. Besides, I suspect the mesh might clog fairly easily reducing air flow. Just my thoughts.

Re: WK2 Lower Front Guard

Bill,
A couple updates for fitment of your products with RRO products for your website:

SUMP PROTECTION PLATE
Rocky Road Outfitters Bumper/Brush Bar/Winch Mount Combo - CONFIRMED (This will not effect it at all)
Rocky Road Outfitters Prerunner - PROBABLY (I tried to fit this before I left for a trip this past weekend and had to stop because it will involve removing the RRO prerunner first and I didn't have time. I will be installing it this weekend though)

TRANSMISSION PROTECTION PLATE
Dom's DEF Protection Plate for Diesel WK2's - CONFIRMED

Hi Victor,

The WK2 Lower Front Guard is now available for pre-order!

I should also mention that we've just released an updated version of our WK2 Sump Protection Plate. The Heavy Duty (5mm) stays exactly the same. The Standard (3mm) version has a few minor changes (we added some polyurethane/steel bushings and adjusted the mounting slots to accommodate). The big news is that we've added a new Access Panel (3mm) version. It incorporates an access panel so V8 WK2 owners can change their oil without having to remove the entire plate.

I hope that helps!

Cheers,
Bill
