Re: WK2 Lower Front Guard

Apologies for going off topic but mention of the pre-runner got me to look at the "cumming soon" page of Bill's site. Bit disappointed to see "Trucker Hat" listed. It seems to me that once companies feel the need to issue baseball caps and stubby holders, the ideas box is empty and the writing is on the wall. I hope not

I'm just waiting for something to materialise. I'd really prefer to permanently replace the lower airdam than always having to remove the Tupperware before any trips away.

Cheers,
Steve

Re: WK2 Lower Front Guard

Hey Guys,

An update on our WK2 Lower Front Guard.

We received our latest prototype last week, just in time for the WK2 Transmission Protection Plate test fitting, so we took the opportunity to test fit it as well. Things are looking really good. Everything bolts up and fits nicely on 2012 and 2013 models. We need to alter the Camera Guard for 2014+ WK2s so it fits a bit better behind the air dam. We're still tweaking the corner pieces so they fit neatly behind the air dam. We're also working on small tweaks to increase the fit-n-finish and improve installation on various configurations, (with/without ACC, with/without our Sump Plate, with/without air suspension, etc.).

With our next test fitting for this product I'll need someone with a MY14 WK2 with the ACC Camera and parking sensors. If you're interested send me a PM.

Cheers,
Bill

Here's a few photos of the latest WK2 Lower Front Guard prototype bolted onto the Chief Products MY12 WK2.

Re: WK2 Lower Front Guard

Ditto!

With that, I think I might find myself not worrying about the air dam at all.

For better aerodynamics on long fast highways, I was thinking of an SRT like splitter fixed to the underside of the lower front guard. This might be no more than a piece of plate protruding a few cms forward with say a rolled front edge. It could be fixed with a few of the plastic quarter turn fasteners to allow breakaway and easy removal for off-roading. FYI, the splitter is the black thing under the air dam of the yellow BMW in the pic. The other pic is of the SRT front.

I'm not suggesting anything quite so obtrusive though. The splitter reduces air being ramed under the car and directs it up for cooling. The benefits are a little more downforce on the front and a little more cooling. Just a thought for those that like "go faster" bits.

Bill, this looks great! Will it be possible to put the lower fascia back on? Thanks.

That's exactly the idea with this product! Off-Road protection for this critical area when off-road, but then completely hidden when driving around town. We're also working on something we call the WK2 Pre-Runner that will replace the lower fascia. It's for those that do a bit more off-roading and don't want to remove the lower fascia every time they head off-road.

Cheers,
Bill

Can't wait to see it but not sure I could justify it. Considering it takes only 5-10min to take the bumper cover on and off, it will take a lot of off-road trips to pay for itself. But... if it looks real schmick, that's another story.
