WK2 Nudge Bar

Here's a sneak peek at our new Nudge Bar. This product wasn't initially at the top of our list, because there are already a few in the marketplace. But after some long chats with customers and a lot of requests, we decided we might be able to offer something that wasn't already available.

Here's a 3D rendering in Satin Black.

FEATURES
  • Fits with our WK2 Recovery Hooks & WK2 Recovery Points.
  • 4 tabs for lights and aerials.
  • Compatible with parking sensors, (still testing)
  • Available in Satin Black or Stainless Steel.

I don't have any pricing yet, but I'm hoping to have our first prototype in the next few weeks for in-the-field testing.

I look forward to hearing everyone's feedback.

Cheers,
Bill

Looks good, what's it made off?
Do you have a rough projected price?

Hey Snuke,

We're currently planning to make the bar out of 2.5" Stainless Steel tubing, with corresponding Stainless Steel bracketry. It will be mounted to the vehicle via a 20mm steel plate (zinc undercoated & black powder coated) and 10.9 grade bolts.

I don't have pricing yet, but I'll be sure to post an update when I do.

Cheers,
Bill

Re: WK2 Nudge Bar

I realised yesterday that the 3D render I posed earlier is not correct. I believe we accidentally placed a Nudge Bar for a 2012 on the front of a 2014. I attempted to update my original post, but no luck.

I also realised I didn't post a link to the product on our website. If you're interested in knowing more about this product when it's released, jump onto our website and enter your email address.
WK2 Nudge Bar | Chief Products

Here is the correct 3D render for a 2014 WK2. As you can see the Nudge Bar goes up a bit higher on a 2014 WK2, and will not obscure the license plate.

Re: WK2 Nudge Bar

Hey Guys,

A quick update on our WK2 Nudge Bar. We've finalised the first round of 3D models and engineering drawings. The first prototype is being built now and will hopefully be available for in-the-field testing soon.

Cheers,
Bill

Hey Guys,

Here's an update on our WK2 Nudge Bar.

During the prototype phase we discovered that our previous supplier couldn't handle some of our requirements. Development was delayed for a little over a month while we looked for a new supplier. It proved to be a bit more difficult than we anticipated. In the end though, it looks like our persistence paid off. We now have a new supplier that can meet our full requirements for this product and they seem better positioned to meet our product development timelines.

I expect to receive our first prototype on October 24th. I should have more information for everyone a few days after that.

I'm excited to finally be moving forward on this project again!

Cheers,
Bill

Re: WK2 Nudge Bar

Hey Guys,

The 1st prototype for our WK2 Nudge Bar arrived on Friday. As with all 1st prototypes there are some adjustments to be made, but the quality of our new supplier is excellent. I'm very happy with the results.

I'm also very happy to report that our innovative mounting system works like a champ. It's very strong, very clean looking and makes installation of the nudge bar super easy. Once we make a few tweaks, I'll post some photos of the bar fully installed.

We'll be offering the WK2 Nudge Bar in 2 versions - Gloss Black & Mirror Polish. Here are some initial specs.

SPECIFICATIONS
WK2 Nudge Bar (Gloss Black) - Powder Coated 304 Stainless Steel
WK2 Nudge Bar (Mirror Polish) - Polished 316 Stainless Steel
Bar Weight = 4.5kg
Total Weight (mounting brackets + hardware + bar) = 12.95kg
Fits with our WK2 Recovery Hook & WK2 Recovery Point

I'm looking to pick up a few off-road lights to test with the nudge bar. Does anyone have any suggestions? I'm looking for a top-notch LED Light Bar as well as a couple of Spotties. I've been looking at Aurora for the LED light bar, but I'm completely open to suggestions.

Cheers,
Bill

Re: WK2 Nudge Bar

Hey Guys,

We had our test fitting on Saturday and the WK2 Nudge Bar is coming along nicely.

A few features we've designed into the WK2 Nudge Bar.
1. A tapered tab on the bottom of the nudge bar, fits down into a tapered hole on the mounting bracket. This locks the bar to the mounting bracket similar to how a wheel lug nut locks your wheel onto your car. It's incredibly strong and best of all, completely invisible when bolted in place.
2. The mounting brackets swivel slightly to make installation much easier.
3. The mounting brackets have a bit of extra steel on the inside edge to keep a bow shackle from hitting the nudge bar during a vehicle recovery.
4. Accessory mounting tab is slotted to accommodate various mounting positions and bolt patterns.

Based on the test fitting of this prototype we're making the following changes.
1. Extending the height of the nudge bar to accommodate parking sensors on MY14 WK2s as well as provide better spacing behind the bar to accommodate the depth of various accessories when mounted to the bar.
2. Adjusting the angles of the bar to better follow the front contours of the vehicle.
3. Adjusting the mounting brackets to better account for manufacturing tolerances and increase ease of installation.

I'm hoping to have the next prototype before our Weekend Wheeling trip to LCMP. Hopefully just in time to give it (and my new ARB Intensity LED Spotties) some good off-road testing.

Cheers,
Bill

Re: WK2 Nudge Bar

Hey Guys,

The WK2 Nudge Bar performed great during our off-road testing this past weekend at our Weekend Wheeling event, (Weekend Wheeling Nov 14-15-16). If you're curious, I'll be posting some photos and videos of the event soon.

I'm happy to report, the WK2 Nudge Bar is compatible with 2011, 2012 & 2013 parking sensors. And we've got a test fitting this Saturday to confirm parking sensor compatibility on 2014 and 2015 WK2s.

Before I can finalise the design, I still need to test fit it on a MY11 WK2, (same front end as USA models). If you have a MY11 or a MY13 Trailhawk and you're willing to bring it in for a few hours so we can test fit several of our products, please send me a message. I'll make it worth your while.

Cheers,
Bill

Re: WK2 Nudge Bar

Hey Bmackin, this is an awesome looking product! I like it! My only concern is on my 2013 Overland, I already have installed the factory Mopar recovery hooks. Looking at your design plans, it seems that this push bar was designed to bolt directly through your three piece tow recovery hooks.

Correct me if I'm wrong

Hey sur_real1,

Thanks for the compliments!

You're right our WK2 Nudge Bar is designed to mount to the frame in the same place as the factory Mopar recovery hooks. Unfortunately there aren't many good mounting points on the frame, so everything needs to be designed to mount in the same spot. It took a bit of work, but our WK2 Nudge Bar can be installed on its own or with any combination of our other products, (WK2 Recovery Hook, WK2 Recovery Point, WK2 Sump Protection Plate, WK2 Lower Front Guard & WK2 Pre-Runner). Unfortunately it would've taken a lot of extra engineering to make it compatible with other companies products.
