Re: Customer Requests???

Jason,

I need your help with my Euro tails. Dude I tried everything to get them to work on the 07+. Are you interested in going through all of it with me to see if we can solve it?

Rob

Re: Customer Requests???

Has anyone experienced problems with the illuminated approach with HID? I turned it off but when I had it activaed the left (drivers) side would flicker on and off, then back on and stay on. I swapped ballast, relay, bulbs, and everything woth the oher side and still the same problem. Here's a video. You have to pay close attention to the left (drivers) side lows...

Its based on the order the voltage gets to the bulbs. When I adapted the LEDs the first time with the T-taps, I could change whether the tops only or the whole assembly flashed based on which connector got voltage first, the red or the yellow. Bet the Euros would work the same way.

Scott, we can definitely figure something out. The biggest determining factor on how we solve your problem here is how exactly do you want your rear fogs to function? Do you want them to do all functions (running lights, brake lights, and turn signals), or are there just a specific function or two you want them to perform? This will determine how I have to wire you up.

The other thing I need to know is how do your Euro tails currently function? I am familiar with how they are SUPPOSED to function but I've been bitten a time or two making a harness for some guy that has some wierd stuff going on with his wiring. Does one bulb function as brake/running and another bulb function as turn signal/running or what? A picture of the taillight plug would also be helpful. Did you (or whomever installed the lights) modify the '06 Jeep wiring at all? Let me know. We can easily get you up and running.

BTW, Jason's wiring harnesses for the rear fogs are a work of art. Very, very clean. Nicely done. Once I get my lights back from Daniel, I'll post up pics.
Never thought about doing that. I can look into it and see what's involved. My guess is that there are some pretty complicated electronics to bypass the functions. But, I'll take a look at it.

Rob, most definitely I would be interested. I remember you were asking me a question here and there over at the red site but I kinda get left outta the loop. We should probably start a new thread, let me know if you do. So the diode pack didn't work for you???

My guess is that what is going on is that the computer is getting confused on exactly what is going on with your headlights. This is because and HID kit draws 35W, as opposed to most halogen bulbs that draw 55W. The computer is probably confused about whether or not you have a working bulb there due to the lower than normal current draw. The cancellers basically "fool" the computer into thinking that there is a normal current draw. The cancellers are capacitors that due this. Might be worth a shot if this problem is something that bugs you.

I would call the guy at HID Guy (really good guy, knowledgeable and good about answering the phone) and tell him what your deal is. Just make sure you get a verbal agreement outta him that if these don't fix your problem, he'll give you a full refund. He did it with me when I was trying to get my SmartBeams to work. I'm 99.9% sure that the cancellers will fix your problem. Keep me in the loop.

Re: Customer Requests???

Anyway you can make extensions wires for my HID bulb wires? I'm changing my bulbs and it's quite hard to reconnect the 2 two bulb wires because I don't have much slack since everything has been mounted. I'm using 3m tape on the ballasts so I don't want to pull it off and have it lose it's stickiness.

Not a bad idea. In fact, when I was rewiring my HID's, the ballast locations I chose were not my first choices, but I was limited by ballast-bulb wire length.

Wire selection is cruicual here. Maybe I'll put a call into Philips and see if I can get any info or specs on the type of wire they use. Maybe it's pretty easy to get a hold of, maybe it's exotic. I'll definitely look into it.

Thanks for your suggestion.

Good news. The answer is a resounding YES. While I could certainly whip up a hardwired solution, there is no need. You can go to your dealership and have this enabled. They basically change the fog light output setting to "export", which tells the FCM that the jeep is in a different country, where having your fogs on at the same time as your highs is totally legal.

I have this done on my jeep already, so I can run my highs, lows, and fogs all at the same time. And all three are HID! It's bright!!!

Here's the procedure:

Starscan main menu > ECU view > FCM/CGW > misc.function > Enable front fog lamp > output > start > next > disable > next > cancel > start > next > enable > next > export > next > finish

I printed the procedure out and handed it to the tech. He did it in about 5 minutes, but I still got charged $45 (criminals).

Jason-the euro lamps were plug and play for me. I didnt modify a thing. I just want them to come on with the brake lights and as running lights...no turn signal.

Scott-

That shouldn't be a problem at all man. You looking to use LED bulbs in your rear fogs or stick with the stockers?

I can whip that harness up pretty quick. Tapping into the taillights to activate the rear fogs on an '06 Jeep is usually a problem. But that's only because you have to get the brakes and turn signals to interact correctly, which usually requires a converter box. However, you're looking for brakes but NOT the turn signals, so we can keep those circuits seperate and avoid the problem altogether.

This will actually be a pretty simple harness to make, I just have to use the '06 plugs (ugghh). I don't stock them so I'll have to order them in, and they are more expensive than the '07+ plugs. It'll be right around the same price as the other harnesses tho. I just need a commitment from you that you wanna buy this harness so I don't order a set of plugs that I'm not gonna use.
