Re: Customer Requests???

understood, i will wait and see what you hear from ekaz.

personally, if its not TOO expensive, and the lights arent dimmer than stock. I would like to get them anyway to avoid heat warping. I see this as a nice alternative to the LED tails.

Define "TOO expensive". How much would you be willing to pay. I'm guessing you would want me to purchase the resistors?

Bear in mind, the connectors to make these plug and play are almost $50 for a set of two.

Re: Customer Requests???

Would having this connector also make it plug and play with LED tails, so if later down the road I want to get LED tails I can just plug them right in, no problem?

I can make it however you want, but the general answer to your question would be no. This is because the taillight plugs are different for the LED tails and '07+ jeeps. The LED tails use the '06 Jeep connector.

However, it would still interface with rear fog light harnesses and everything else. If you bought LED tails, I could always put the '07+ plugs on those, too.

What I am envisioning is a short (~6 inches) inline harness that contains the resistor. You would unplug the taillight and plug these little "resistor harnesses" in between the taillight and the stock wiring. Install the bulb and you'd be ready to go.

Currently, there is no way to make LED tails 100% plug-n-play for '07+ Jeeps because of the reverse light connector.

Re: Customer Requests???

i didnt know they were that expensive! wow.... so thats 50 for the bulbs, and 50-60 for the harness in parts alone!

if they were brighter, they would be worth it.

I sent a PM to ekaz over at the red site and I am awaiting his reply. I really suggest you do the same. It would be a shame to do all this work if it isn't even as bright as what you have now.

Okay, I got my answer. Ekaz responded back. See below:

I mentioned to them that I heard some where that the LED bulbs aren't even as bright as the stock ones. Is that true? I have no real experience with this so I don't really know. Basically, I don't wanna tell these guys to do the swap if it's not even gonna be as bright as what they currently have. Plus, some of them have tinted tails.

What are your thoughts on the subject?

-Jason

Hey Jason,
My thoughts on the subject of LED replacements huh? The LED replcement bulbs, in my opinion, are as bright or even slightly brighter than the stock bulbs. I have tinted tail lights and you can see them without any issue bit during the day and at night.
hops23 (Ernie) has the same setup and I think he'd say the same thing. He drove behind me once before I had my lights tinted and said they were brighter than stock.
LED replacements for the backup lights are insane!
Hope that rambling helped.
I can get you some pics if you want of mine.

Re: Customer Requests???

That sounds like great news.

Correct me if I'm wrong here. Let's say I have stock tails and I want the LED bulbs. All I have to do is purchase the bulbs and replace the stocks?

(sorry if I'm wrong, I might have misread something in the previous posts)

-Thanks

You must have misread something but it isn't quite that simple. First, you gotta get a special bulb. http://www.v-leds.com/Exterior-LED/B...68711-1-2.html

If you don't get this special bulb, you'll continually blow fuses because a normal bulb acts as a dead short to the jeep. This is the problem that took us forever to figure out over at the red site.

The other thing you will need is load resistors. If you have my harness for the rear fogs, you need the 3-ohm models: http://www.v-leds.com/BlinkerWarning...79822-1-3.html

If you do NOT have my rear fog harness, you need the 6-ohm models: http://www.v-leds.com/BlinkerWarning...83296-1-3.html

These have to be wired in parallel with the turn circuit or your bulbs will function wierd.

I bought the 921 led from Autolumination. They were the brightest and I think stock bulbs are brighter.

Not altogether surprising. I have the 3157 reverse LED's (LED tails) that have 60 LED's in them and I still wouldn't put the output in the same arena as the stock bulbs. I did it for the looks.

I'm really having a hard time resisting those reverse HID's. The only thing I don't like about them is that they are super glued to the housings.

One day, I will have those things. And then a switch to back those tailgater's off, lol.
