"Houston, we have a problem!" - The Lipschitz Wiring Troubleshooting Thread

Okay guys, I thought I'd start a thread in case anyone has any trouble with their harnesses from me. For the most part these things have been trouble-free, but I do encounter problems here and there.

I already have a couple of past problems I will post up here so people can see. If nothing else, maybe they'll help people to troubleshoot their problems if they have them.

---------- Post added at 09:06 AM ---------- Previous post was at 08:54 AM ----------

Okay, the first problem I ever had with the harness was a guy complained that one side was working and one side wasn't. I exchanged him for a new harness, which fixed the problem. I took the old harness apart and, much to my surprise, I had a shoddy crimp on one connection. Very rare for me. Fixed the crimp and now someone's rolling around with that harness in their possession, no problems!

Next, a gentleman complained that his harness wasn't working at all, either side. This really threw me for a loop because I can understand me messing up one half of the harness, but for me to screw up both sides? That's uncommon. Come to find out, he ordered an LED harness but the bulbs were back ordered so he decided to try it out with the stock bulbs. Thankfully, it didn't fry the harness and all is well now that he has the right bulbs in there. I can't stress this enough: THE HARNESSES ARE NOT INTERCHANGEABLE!

More recently, I had a problem with the harness setup that I sold Tom from Modern Horsepower. It's been doing extremely wierd things. But, as soon as he stepped on the brakes one time, it performed like normal. I thought that maybe it was a bad diode, so I sent him a brand new set of harnesses. No change. After discussing it with him, we now believe that it may be the bulbs. He had some that he found on eBay and we think these might be at fault. He ordered some new ones from AutoLumination and I'm waiting to hear back on whether this fixes it or not. To date, this is the only time I've heard of a harness "functioning, but functioning incorrectly".

And the most recent one was the entire custom setup I sent to Kaos. Man, I feel like such an idiot. He plugged the new taillights in and they worked fine, which told me the wiring was good. But the rear fogs wouldn't work. He ordered the LED style harnesses. He even tried using regular bulbs and that didn't work. Come to find out, I had the wires backwards on the connector that plugs into the back of the fog light. Because they were LED bulbs, they only work if the wires are a certain way. After reversing the wires (which Kaos had to do himself unfortunately), everything was fine. The reason the regular bulbs didn't work (doesn't matter how the wires are with regular bulbs) is because the resistance is too high for them to illuminate regular bulbs in "running light" mode. However, they should have still worked if he would have put the hazards on or stepped on the brakes. He didn't try that. So, shortly after that, he was up and running. This won't happen again.

Thanks for helpin me trouble shoot last night. I said i wouldnt mention it. What i will say is this no ones perfect and people make mistakes but i give it to Jay for asking me what he could do to make it right. You answered the phone and helped us figure out the problem we str8 in my book. Plus it sounded like i woke you up. My bad. Any one on the fence about the harness stop stallin and just get it.

I want rear fogs so bad, i wish i could get rear fogs just so i can buy one of your harnesses. Thanks for posting this thread though, it says alot about a person when they are willing to admit that "shit happens" and follow through with fixing it.

Re: "Houston, we have a problem!" - The Lipschitz Wiring Troubleshooting Thread

This is not an issue with anything from youb ut more of a question. Is there an easy way to add LED bulbs for turn signals up front and in the back (with euro export WH tails) w/o having fuse issues or fast blinking?

I used to always used LEDs and a resistor but everyone on here says thats not enough for the WK.

is there a fix?

You need resistors for the front and the rear. You got to be careful tho because it will depend on the taillights you have. If you are talking about just replacing the turn signal bulbs on the export tails, then all you need is the resistors. If you are talking about replacing the brakes/turns bulb on the '07+ taillights (same bulb), then you need a special bulb from V-LED's.

Hope this answers your question.

Just changing the bulbs on stock 05 tail lights.

I'm definitely less familiar with the '05-'06 Jeeps but I've read that the bulbs on these can be changed to LED's with minimal effort. I think all that is needed is a pair of resistors. It was the '07+ jeeps which were a pain. They needed resistors AND a special bulb.

Re: "Houston, we have a problem!" - The Lipschitz Wiring Troubleshooting Thread

So I want to put (leds) Vleds in my factory tails because they are starting to warp. Is there a harness so I dont have to put resistors. I always had problems with resistors getting real hot. Im also going to go with rear backup Vleds
