05-07 projectors and PS request

Looking to get projectors for my low-beam HID's. I'd really like to go with the '08 conversion, but the high cost really deters me; Probably close to $1,000 after all is said and done. Bumper, bumper bracket, OEM projectors, HID bulbs, relays, paint.

So, I have come back to the "eBay" projector housings which I must say aren't really attractive with the LED's. I understand the LED's as well as the mini Halo's can simply not be connected and therefore never light up. I think they can look alright given that my Jeep is silver and the chrome housing is sort of hidden if you will with the color of the car - there really isn't any contrast between the housing and the rest of the vehicle.

  • Would someone be willing to Photoshop the projectors on my Jeep? I have a few pics from different angles, just use whatever one is easiest.

  • It looks like they have flipped the low-beam location and the turn signal location -- can anyone confirm this?

  • Also, are these projector housings quality -- meaning are they true projector housings or simply mimics?

  • Lastly, what are your guys thoughts on this? Given that this would be significantly cheaper, like 800 bucks cheaper, I wouldn't actually connect the LED or halos, so they wouldn't light up, and that I have a silver Jeep, what do you think?

Matt....whats wrong with your reflectors? Don't like the light output or spread? From those pix you posted in the other thread, it looked like it had a nice and even spread with no real hot spots...

To be brutally honest with you...I say no to those eBay housings...I don't like their design..and yes...the did flip the turn and low location...which is stupid...this is the frist generation aftermarket projector housing for WK's...may be later on they'll do a better one...took them 3 tries to get a good on for the WJ's...

For me they are great! But I guess I am concerned with being "that asshole" that blinds you when I drive by. I don't know maybe I'm just overly concerned, lol.

I can't argue against this, they do look gaudy. And that's true, it did take 3 trys to get them right for the WJ's. Hmm, I wonder how long it could take for a new set to come out.

IMHO...save the $200 youd waste on the ebay crap....save for the real deal. You dont have to buy an 08 bumper either if you use your imagination or copy the humps I made. If I can do it...anyone can

I hear ya Scott.

But still, $400-$700 for OEM projectors, $100+ for bulbs, and then the time taken to make the little humps, and re-wire the lamps.

These are a simple swap. I'm going to hold off until a Photoshop, but if they don't look good I'll just stick with the stock reflectors.

Lemme PM ya back in a few mins.

Gaudy is the right word!!! LMAO!! I have a few other words I can throw in there too...but I won't...

As long as they are aligned...you should be fine Matt...I have never been flashed with my HID's in my reflectors....even halogen's that aren't aligned correctly can blind oncoming drivers...I flash those people all the time!!! :D
haha.

Yeah, I re-aligned them appropriately to keep it as un-disruptive as I could, but I just like the clean look of the projector/bulb as opposed to the scattered pattern.

Matt, you need some chrome signal bulbs. would change the look even slightly imo.
My issue is only with the low-beam reflective housings. I just don't like the scattered/random look with HID's. They do great on the road, but I'd just prefer the projector housing.

^^^^the love boat?

most 08 lamps from wreckers will come with the bulbs and the wiring takes 3 minutes.....

next..............

I know, haha.

Another thing to consider... the lights probably won't look as bad once they're on the Jeep... I mean we're judging them (before the PS) from a photo where the lamp was sitting alone with a white backround. When they're on a car there will be plenty more "distraction" if you will to pull away from the gaudy LED's.

Maybe I'm just trying to talk myself into them, haha.

It will be well worth the $400 tho Matt...don't waste your money one that eBay wanna be projectors...

They are of good quality...but the projector and the cut off doesn't compare to the OEM projectors....

Just save that $200 you're going to spend right now...and save a little more and you'll have enough to buy the OEM's...don't rush it!

Ohh...and if you open up those projectors and paint the bling...they might fog up...my projectors fogged up because the heat from the light and the paint wasn't compatible....and then thats $200+ down the drain...I had to toss mine cause I couln't save them... :(

This is good advice, thanks Hannes. It's just hard to justify the cost. I mean the eBay ones are plug 'n play. The OEM's, I'll have to re-wire, which isn't an issue, just one more thing to do. Then I'll need new bulbs (no 4300 for me), that's probably another $100. Then I'll have to fab up some little hump thingys, just more work and who knows how that will look or if it will hold up. I'd just prefer to do this without the hassle, that's all.

I think I'll just give it some time to search eBay and see if I can score them at a good deal, likely one lamp at a time.

Ah, good to know!

LOL...good! I know its a lot more work to get the OEM's to work...
and 4300K is wayyy to yellowish...I agree... ;)

You could save up and get them...or...wait it out and hope that whoever makes the aftermarket ones decides to make a set that looks like the OEM's...

Like...3 years from when the first GEN I version was released...took forever...lol...

Matt...I'll tell ya what...we need to meet up someday...and you can drive by me at night...and if you don't blind me...I will put my stamp of approval on those reflectors and we'll call it a day! ;)
