05 Grand Cherokee (3.7L) tensioner siezed

So I took my 05 grand cherokee (3.7L) into the shop to replace the starter. I was told that my serpentine belt tensioner was seized and needs to be replaced. How easy is it to replace this item? I have looked on the internet but have not found how to do so. Do I have to replace just the pulley or the whole tensioner. Any help would be great. Was also told that the throttle body needs cleaned, is this really necessary.

I dont know about the serpentine belt tensioner, but your throttle body shouldnt be that bad. The 3.7 engines dont get as gunked up at the 4.7's and the 5.7's. It is REALLY simple to do if you wanted to do it yourself, but dont pay him to do it.

Do it right, change the entire tensioner assembly. They are about $50 for the entire assembly and held on the motor with one bolt. Easy job once you look at it.

Re: 05 Grand Cherokee (3.7L) tensioner siezed

The tensioner is the same as the one on my 4.7L, which I just replaced last week. It is extremely easy to replace, not much mechanical know how needed. Pull back the tensioner, remove the belt, unbolt the tensioner, replace the tensioner and reverse the process. It literally took me about 20 min to replace both the tensioner and belt. I would replace the belt while you already have it off. No point in wasting the opportunity, ya know?
