'05 WK losing significant oil

So i searched the threads, and found a few similar stories to mine... but nothing spot on! Im rolling in a 2005 Wk Laredo. 3.7 V6. Im at 150,000 miles and losing a SIGNIFICANT amount of oil, way to much to just be burn off... however i cannot locate any leaks... I cleaned just about every piece off that could possibly come in contact with engine oil roughly 3 weeks ago.. and nothing has a drop of oil on it... but my oil light is on and dipstick clearly shows I'm very low... Help?

Re: '05 WK losing significant oil

Hello, how many miles on it? I would check your PCV system and breather if equipped. Also check your exhaust for hint of blue smoke may be subtle but enough to consume oil. I hope it isn't the second case. Some manufacturers are stating adding oil between oil changes is common these days (ex Toyota and Mazda, Honda) but i'm not sure about Jeep because I just bought my first Jeep last week. I hope this doesn't happen to mine also one more thought, are you using the correct weight of oil. I ask this because if its wrong say 0w40 instead of 5W20 that might cause a problem. Good luck

Re: '05 WK losing significant oil

Got a little over 150k, running fully synthetic 5w30... my plan is to do a full oil change... take it out for a highway ride, than let it sit in my garage for a day or 2, because I know for a fact I'm losing oil... wondering if it's dripping from the pain or a bad seal therefore it wouldn't be on any other parts... it's not causing any mechanical issues because I frequently check and add oil... but it ain't cheap

Re: '05 WK losing significant oil

Hello, Try to make sure your owners manual says that grade. I have a 5.7 in mine and I actually had a trouble code that stated wrong oil. When i bought the truck someone had put the wrong oil in it. The Hemis are sensitive and will throw a code I didn't see a cel but I scanned the computer and found it so I changed the oil.I hope you aren't losing oil through the rear main seal. If your plan doesn't work(I hope it does) try a compression test some people call it a leak down test. I hope you fix it easily, take care.

So, what are we really talking about here? Your public profile and under your screen name on this thread says you have a 5.7, but in the text of the thread you're talking about a 3.7. Which is it??

Re: '05 WK losing significant oil

How much oil over how many miles? Put a piece of cardboard under the engine immediately after parking your warm vehicle. If it's leaking a lot you will see it on the cardboard. How many miles are you putting on between oil changes?
