anyone else's hemi sound terrible when it swiches into fuel saver mode it sounds like a exhaust leak dealer said its normal
also after starting and idling for a couple of minuets i hear what sounds like a lifter tapping,is this normal

I get that lifter tapping noise after my 5.7 hemi has been idling for a few minutes as well. I think this is common and read on this form that others with the 5.7 hemi have this "hemi tap" as well. I think its something that you just have to get use to.

What kind and weight oil are you running in it? Synthetic or dino? Is your exhaust stock?

it def makes a slight exhaust note change, but not like it is leaking...I have a borla cat back with reso delete fyi...from what I have read 5w20 is what you need to use with the 5.7 mds, otherwise the engage/disengage is much more noticeable. kind of a separate issue, but my jeep is idling much better after I cleaned my throttle body. I was amazed how dirty it was...super simple to take a look at it and you may be surprised like I was. jeep runs smoother and idles is a lot less sporadic/choppy!

thanks everyone, the exhaust is stock for now,the dealer said its the m.d.s switching from 4-8cyl in fuel saver mode, stupid feature lol i paid for a 8cyl not a 4,and i see no fuel savings,i just bought it so i havent changed the oil yet,and it seems pretty difficult to get to the fuel filter, should have got the 4.7 its a faster and lighter motor

,and it seems pretty difficult to get to the fuel filter,
You can't change the fuel filter ,it's part of the fuel pump assm.in the tank. that "lifter sound" is the infamous "HEMI TICK" drove me nuts for the 1st month or two. You can check with the dealer and see if there are any computer updates for it, sometimes that helps with the shuddering. Definately nothing thicker than 5w20 with a 5.7

K&N oil filters have a 1" nut on the bottom. A 3/8" drive socket and 12" extension work well for removal.

Three (3) oil / oil filter changing tips:
1. My hydraulic line runs in a U-shape run right under the oil filter drain chute discharge on the front side of the frame rail. Made a mess the first time I changed oil. Now, when I change filters, I remove the one holding bracket (8 or 10 mm hexhead capscrew) and pull the hose of of the way. Cuts the mess way down. :)
2. Crack the filter and let it drain slowly, a little at a time, until most of the oil is out of the filter. Draining the filter contents more slowly prevents the gush of oil from overrunning the spill tray. This technique also reduces the mess and keeps your frame rails and garage floor clean. :D
3. Consider installing a Fumoto oil drain valve (think it's F106N) to speed up the crankcase draining process and eliminating mess. With a hose on the end, you can drain directly into empty 1-gallon milk jugs for disposal.

You should be able to tap the shift handle to the left and have the EVIC display go from "D" to "5" and you will be in 5th gear. Reverts back to D when you shut down the engine. This move disables MDS so HEMI stays in 8-cyl mode.

When in drive just tap the shifter to the left and you'll see [5] in your evic! And yes, just leave it there, or shift all of the time depending on conditions, but whenever you're in drive and you're not in the gas, you'll see Econ (limited cylinder mode) in your evic when in the compass menu. Hope that helps.

Same thing on my 07 5.7...After putting an exhaust on it didn't fix the sound at all. Then I just put an intake on and it's still there. Even switched to synthetic oil with no change either. From the guys here who used the Predator to disable the 4cyl mode, does it get rid of the tick completely and does it run better?

#14 ·
The tick is a different thing. that is just there (unfortunately) When the mds kicks in n out mine does a miss/stumble/"shudder" thing. i've heard some say there are flashes that can fix or improve this, but my dealer said my truck didnt have any (he looked up my vehicle in his computer)
It's been said often that changing the exhaust can make it worse esspecially if you loose the resonator, it makes it drone.

Will a tuner with the CMR tune or any of the factory tunes get rid of the tick? Also does it run alot better with MDS disabled?

Got 2 cents on this: I've been curious on this subject as well and have recently been trying. the "trick" where you tap the auto-stick to the left, taking it out of D. It's been working real well: seems to respond a little better and have better shifting points(maybe?). Also - i know the MDS "shudder" that someone referred to and I have NOT experienced it with MDS off. I too want to keep MDS off - me want my full V8!! Keep the info coming! Thanks!!
