'08 Oil Change Interval

Thinking of going synthetic and using a high quality filter to run 6 mo/6K mile oil change interval (basically twice as long as the interval my Jeep tells me). Any reason not to do this? Any thoughts/experiences with Amsoil synthetic oil and Wix filters?

(4.7L Gen II engine if that makes any difference.)

I hear that Mobil1 isn't what it used to be, that's why I'm kinda shying away from that product. I have used K&N filters, but only due to their name - I've never researched enough to know if that decision was warranted.

What change interval do you use?

I get great UOAs with my 06 4.7 engine, using Pennzoil Platinum/Wix filter/6k intervals. IMO Amsoil is overpriced. PP is $4/qt at Walmart.

Re: '08 Oil Change Interval

I have heard good things about the platinum...but i hate to change from the M1 ext performance. I have used it in every car I have owned for the last 5-6 years. Thats included a 600 pony 3000GT VR4, Lexus IS250, Stealth TT, 99 Cougar, 99 3000GT SL and of course my slightly modified WK. LOL

Re: '08 Oil Change Interval

I am in charge of oil change intervals for construction equipment, the nastiest enviroment for engines. I know there is so much myth and BS about oil changes. So..............
Any snyth is going 6,000 miles without even a hint of deterioration. Wix filters are totally up to the task also.
BTW In my 5.7 I use Mobil 1 and OEM Mopar filters at 6,000 miles. The Mopar filters look stock (cool LOL!) that's why I use them.

Re: '08 Oil Change Interval

Thanks guys. I forgot that I can get my oil analyzed - I'll do that at 5K miles just to be on the safe side. Assuming the oil is still good, I'll switch to 6K, 6 month intervals.
