2005 Air Intake System Questions

I bought a 2005 Grand Cherokee, 3.7, V-6 totally stock for my son and he wants to put a nes air intake system on it. I have read several internet links regarding which is the better one to buy and I am not sure which to buy for him. I live in california and alot of them are not legal here. Although my local mechanic says not to worry because depending on where you go they pass smog easily and if it does not or I have trouble I can simply and quickly put the stock on back on.
I looked at AFE, K&N and Airaid - I see that Airaid makes one that is legal in Calif. (offroadunlimited.com is the site for Airaid i was reading)

Anyway - I wanted to ask others on here what they think??
which one I should buy ??
Who has the better prices ??

Thank you for responding and your thoughts

Re: 2005 Air Intake System Questions

I have an AFe and I love it. Works and sounds amazing. A lot of guy on here have AFe's. If I were you I'd just google the part you want and go to a lot of sites to find the cheapest one.

Re: 2005 Air Intake System Questions

I personally use the K&N FIPK cold air intake, and love it. Great sound, and easy install.

Just give the manufacturer a call and see if their part is illegal/legal in your state.

Re: 2005 Air Intake System Questions

I would go with a KNOWN Brand name one like a K&N. I don't know if Airaid Makes one for the 3.7L. I know they make it for the 4.7L V8 and the 5.7L V8.

I'd go with the K&N if he wants an intake! Try looking on eBay for a used one. They are pricey!
