2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee Oil Question

2005 jeep GC limited Hemi with mds
126k miles

Just bought a 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited fully loaded with the hemi 5.7l. I'm the 3rd owner, the second owner has changed the oil with synthetic oil 5-20w. The hemi has the MDS, and was wondering if I can go back to regular 5-20w oil. The person I bought it from owned it for 2 years about 25k miles he put on it with the synthetic oil.

So the question again is, can I change back to regular oil from the synthetic?
How long between oil change for miles?

Just asking because of the cost of synthetic oil changes.

this car is for my daughter and she will be paying for the oil changes.

thanks

Re: 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee Oil Question

It is all relative, and really dos not cost more. You can drive about twice as far before changing oil with synthetic, you get better mpg, and there is less engine wear, which mostly happens on cold starts. Stay with synthetic, this is one area where you don't want to cheap out.

If your going go be worried about oil change prices.. the gas mileage is going to kill her. Then if you haven't already i would thoroughly suggest doing a full tune up even if they had records before the hemi throws you problems. Probably throw in new front 02s also at 126k before they go out so your daughter doesnt freak at the sudden gas mpg drop or atleast pop them open and clean/inspect them.

Edit.. stay with synthetic it will make the hemi last longer and like the guys above me said. You can go alot longer on it which will help if your daughter forgets about it.
