2005 JGC PCM question

I have a JGC with 5.7

I'm getting codes P0714 and P0218.
P0218 ‐ High Temperature Operation Activated.
P0714 TRANSMISSION TEMPERATURE SENSOR

Tranny been shifting kida funny and lately getting tranny temp light and the funny shifting.

Seems some research shows it might be a bad PCM
part#P56044555AK for the pcm.

I know if I buy a used-rebuilt one the vin has to be flashed in the newer PCM.

What about the mileage will that have to be programed also.

On ebay all they ask for is the VIN to program and put the correct vin in newer one?

Re: 2005 JGC PCM question

Even though the problem can be with the PCM, it is also good possible that the transmission temperature sensor in the solenoid block is the problem. If a high temperature is sensed, the TCM will use an other shift program, which can mean delayed shifting for example.
From all the previous complaints I saw regarding transmission overtemp message, there was no related code for the temperature sensor. I would first measure the temp sensor wire from the PCM to the transmission connector and see if its not open or shorted to ground.

Re: 2005 JGC PCM question

Frank

Thanks for the info.

The tranny temp happens 1every 2 -3 months. Lately the P0218 has been happening. When the temp light comes on it would go away within minutes.

I had the tranny checked today and was test driven and was told tranny is shifting fine. Also told it could be the pcm or something else. So I will call the tranny place tomorrow to see how much it would be to drop pan and replace the relay pack inside.

Would you or someone else have an idea of a price. I'm looking at the cheapest way out first. A used pcm is about $200+ with vin programmed in it from ebay.

Also how about the miles being programed will that need to be done also?

thanks dss56
