Exclamation 2005 Laredo V6 Towing

Hi,
My first post so please be patient. I purchased a Grand Cherokee Laredo 4WD 2005 Yesterday with the V6. I looked at the owners manual and saw the towing references but I was told today that I am not able to tow with this full time 4WD, Is this so? I'm gonna be bummed if that is the case!
Thank you in advance for your reply.
Andrew.

Re: 2005 Laredo V6 Towing

I think your problem will be engine size and not the 4x4. I have the 3.7 too and it can barely tow itself.

Re: 2005 Laredo V6 Towing

Don't listen to the V8 guys. The owner's manual is right. Just depends how heavy a trailer you want to tow.

Im not saying you cant tow, im just saying your limited. But im assuming you knew that going into a V6 and dont expect to tow alot of weight.

Re: 2005 Laredo V6 Towing

Thank you all for your reply, I should point out my delemma. As I said I have a 2005 V6. It has a class II package already on it and the origional sticker indicated that the dealer sold it that way. Now I look at the adendums to the owners manual which clearly states that the V6 is not intended for recreational towing. the reason being that the 4X4 has no nuetral.
All I wanted to do is to get my boat out of the water and take it to storage about a mile away with no highways. My trailer has electric brakes so i wanted to put a class III hitch on it with a brake controller. Sorry to be long winded but that is it! Can any of you please give me some input?
Thank you, andrew.

Re: 2005 Laredo V6 Towing

"Recreational towing" refers to using a motorhome to tow the Jeep. Without a true neutral the entire driveline will be turning and without the engine running that will cause excessive wear and possible damage to the drivetrain.

I believe the tow rating of the v-6 is 3500 lbs.

Re: 2005 Laredo V6 Towing

Oh, your misunderstanding, like he said, that means towing the JEEP, not towing WITH the jeep. Your fine up to whatever the v6 is rated to. Now we have the confusion worked out!
