Red face 2005 WK 5.7 limp mode and stuck in 3rd [3];

SYMPTOMS:
2005 WK 5.7, quad drive II, limp mode and stuck in 3rd [3];
The DTC report indicated P0700
There is also a buzzing noise under the cab while in Park and Drive; In Reverse it goes away.

I removed the PRND bezel and circuit board. When shifting without the board connected, it still showed [3] instead of [D];

I cleaned the circuit card and put it back together, removed the negative battery terminal to clear the code.

Results: The code is clear. (tried cycling Park -> drive 5 times)
Still stuck in [3] and buzzing noise is still present.
Still in LIMP mode

Any suggestions??

p0700 is letting you know the transmission control module has stored trouble codes. I believe you need a scan tool to read it...So you may have to take it to the stealer to get the codes read from the TCM and then we can go from there. Permanent limp-in mode should just keep you permanently in 2nd gear not 3rd so you may have some bigger issues.

**also I forgot to add check the fluid level**

Mine stuck in third, not second. I was driving along at 65 and it dropped into third!

I replaced the transmission shift module, its above the valve body in the trans. I actually paid the dealership to check the trans codes....15 min and $140 later, I was told it was the TSM. I swapped it myself....not very hard.

It entered limp mode for a reason. If the problem persists, your transmission more than likely needs to be worked on and/or rebuilt.

Thanks for the replies. I am getting the codes scanned this week. I have already spent money on a replacement transfer case and actuator. (I was getting the service 4x4 and it went to neutral on us a few times while we were going 65 on a long trip, not fun);
Hopefully this will be the last drive train problem. I love my jeep but I am tempted to trade in on something newer. They really stick it to you on trade in value. I am coming up with $11k- $13k and I have not had it a year. errr

The dealer ended up installing a transmission shift pack. They changed the filters while they were at it. Back on the road.

I had my trans go into limp mode. After messing with the bezel it went away momentarily. I ended up wiggling the {weatherpac ?} electrical connector at the trans, the 25 pin one, and it was fixed.
