2005 WK 5.7L Hemi - used wrong power steering fluid

Hi,

I'm an idiot and took the word of the guy working at autozone rather than looking into things myself, and put regular power steering fluid into my 2005 Grand Cherokee 5.7L Hemi. It's my understanding that I should only use the combination hydraulic fluid and power steering fluid.

Here's my question: Do I need to go get the system flushed at the dealership immediately and what are the risks if I don't?

I only put in about 8oz of regular power steering fluid. It was Valvoline MAXLIFE power steering fluid with Stop Leak.

I really appreciate the help! I'm a bit panicked and don't want to drive the car (other than to the shop if I have to).

Edit: It appears that the fluid that I used is MS-5931, while what I needed is Part No. 05127381AA meeting MS-11655.

Suck it out and go to dealership and buy hydraulic Fluid 20 bucks a quart. Can not buy at auto parts store. Stood have been a sticker on there tells what to use.

The correct fluid is p/n 05142893AA (Chrysler specification MS-10838).

Yeah, I should have checked before going ahead and pouring it in there. I'm assuming by suck it out you mean that I should go get the Power Steering line flushed right?

I drove it for about 15 minutes after adding the wrong fluid also - does that make a difference?

Re: 2005 WK 5.7L Hemi - used wrong power steering fluid

Posting for the next person who does this:

Took my GC to the dealership after a phone call with the mechanic - mixing the powersteering fluid wouldn't cause any immediate problems, but could cause any of a number of expensive parts to fail in time. Was worth it to me to pay $175 to have the peace of mind that my radiator fan or some other part of the engine was not going to fail.

In the grand scheme of things, it was an inexpensive life lesson.

Thanks to you both for confirming that I'm an idiot and should head over to the dealer...
