Re: 2005 WK Limited Vs 2006 Overland Vs 2008 Limited

I know you're not asking about them, but did you think about a WJ at all? The only reason I'm asking is because I had a WJ for a looooong time and loved it. About two-ish years ago I upgraded to a WK and I despise it. I won't get into the details of it, but the WK is a severe downgrade from the WJ in my opinion. Jeep is going to have to pull a rabbit out of their hat for me to ever buy another. It's an 05 4.7 Limited with 80,000. You could probably still get a nice WJ with pretty low miles somewhere in the 8k range? Just some food for thought!

Re: 2005 WK Limited Vs 2006 Overland Vs 2008 Limited

I have one of each My WJ has only 11,000 miles on it and is ten years old, but to me it is much better than my 08 Wk. The interior is so cheap in the 08 WK limited. When you pull the door shut it is like the door panel is going to pull off the door. plastic creaking and just cheap built. I would buy a WK2 if I had the money. We rented one when they first came out and it was real nice. I went from a Mercedes ML350 to my WK, and miss the real wood and nice interior. I am now looking for a ML350 that will fit my budget, if I can find one I will get rid of the WK with the noisey lifters and plastic interior. I know a Jeep is not a high end vehicle and I may just expect too much.

Re: 2005 WK Limited Vs 2006 Overland Vs 2008 Limited

I have an 05 Hemi LX and an 06 Hemi WK, and the engines are almost identical. The transmissions are different, with the WK having the 545RFE in all years you're looking at. They are, IMO, marginal at best, but can be "tuned" to perform satisfactorily. The 05 has spark plug wires (something else to go bad), and the 06's and up do not. This is not a problem if everything is properly maintained. The 05 was the first year of the WK with the 5.7 and, as such has more TSB's against it. Not a problem though, especially if you're getting it from a Jeep dealer. Just write into the contract (for any of them) that they update the PCM/TCM to the latest CALID files for the vehicle in question. Also, get a Carfax on all of them and try to get your hands on the maintenance records. Insist on the owners manual package too. Lots of good info. in them. They gave me all the books for an 05 WK, even though mine is an 06. As I said, very little difference between the two. I can't speak to the 4.7, but I can say that I've not had any problems with either of my Hemi's. I do keep all maintenance up to date and do preventative maintenance as soon as I detect something is not quite right. If you can't get the maintenance records, beware. With them having relatively high miles, they're getting into the range where some components need "more attention and/or replacement". Was a 90/100K maintenance/inspection done on any of them. It's a major, involved, expensive inspection and, IMO, pretty important. Fluids/oils/antifreeze alone run over $300, if you buy them.

Just be cautious, and don't jump on the first thing, unless it's what you want and can verify most/all of the above. Good luck and let us know what you end up with.

Re: 2005 WK Limited Vs 2006 Overland Vs 2008 Limited

Everyone thank you very much for all of the information. It looks like we are buying a different 2005 WK Limited than what I posted about earlier. It also is 90k miles but in decent condition and we are getting it for $9k.

I was leaning towards a 2007/2008 tahoe/yukon but my wife really wanted the smaller jeep so the compromise was to get the least expensive one I could find.

All service records have been kept up on it and the 90k service was just performed on it so I figured we would give it a try in order to keep happiness throughout the realm.

This is my 5th jeep so I know there will be some issues but worse case I will sell it for a little less than what I have in it if we do not like it.

Re: 2005 WK Limited Vs 2006 Overland Vs 2008 Limited

I just got an 05 Limited fully loaded with the 5.7 last month for $9000 plus my old 1995 ZJ. It has 110k miles and I have had it checked by my shop and all is in good condition. Few cosmetic things but nothing major wrong with it and I love it, I put new tires on it too since it had one tire that did not match the rest on the passenger rear. It gets 18.5 mpg on the highway as long as I keep it under 65, getting closer to 70 brings it down under 18.

Re: 2005 WK Limited Vs 2006 Overland Vs 2008 Limited

The only one I would consider at those prices is the 08 I'm thinking you could fet it around 10.5 which would be a good deal without the high mileage, and fender bender. How much damage was done, and does it have a repair history. I've never been to your area so I have to ask could the mileage be highway miles, and how are most of the roads. Whatever you do good luck on your search
