Re: 2005 WK Limited with broken interior door panels

In the last few months, 3 of the door panels have cracked and broken to the point that the interior handle is useless, after searching the net, I have found hundreds of people who have had the same problem with 05 - 06 WK's, there are 104 and counting compalints on the NHTS website about this problem. This is a safety issue, because in case of a crash, passengers and or driver may not be able to exit the vehicle, I have filed formal complaints with Chrysler and the NHTS, and the problem is ignored. The dealer charges 700 per panel to replace the whole panel, because the handle mount is molded into the door panel. Buying used replacements is not an answer, because the same thing will eventually happen to the used parts. I have been told by the dealer mechanic who is a friend that the plastic resin was made too brittle by the supplier of the panels, and chrysler is aware of the many complaints. Shame on Chrysler for ignoring what should be a safety recall.

If you post the links to submit complaints in this thread, you'll probably get a lot more people to sign up...

Re: 2005 WK Limited with broken interior door panels

Only way to fix it is to order the new updated panels from the dealer. From what I've been told/heard some of the original door panels had a bad plastic/resin cure and were prone to cracking, apparently this only affected a small number of early built vehicles. The later built units had a different batch of panels and seem to be fine(Gotta love Daimler's cost cutting vendor selection). That being said the local dealer I use said in the ones they do see crack its usually b/c the person would use the handle lever to pull the door shut instead of the actual door handle. I guess there aren't screws/support around the lever to handle that kind of weight so it stresses/shifts the panel causing it to crack.

If anyone is interested I got a buddy at my local Jeep dealer that cuts me a very good price on things if I do it as a Group Buy type of deal. So if I can get a few people to commit I could probably get him to order the panels and sell them for damn near his cost (well plus shipping to put it to your door)

http://www.denlorstools.com/autoblog...broken-recall/

Involved in following the steps on the blog by ghost sailor, frustrating, 3 of four panels are broken and the fourth is cracked.... thankfully the only one that is not broken completely is the drivers side. Which is strange, I don't carry a lot of passengers.

Re: 2005 WK Limited with broken interior door panels

3 out of the 4 interior door panels of my '05 WK have cracked and/or completely busted into pieces around the handle. So far all of them can still open from the inside. I hate that they can't manufacture just this piece without having to replace the entire panel It is way too expensive for that, especially when I have 3 of them that need it!

jeep grand cherokee door handle 2005 | eBay

If you check on that search page there are plenty of $30 shipped/each options (in matching color variations of course). I've personally installed several of the eBay kits for friends and you can't tell the difference between OEM and those quality-wise (except that the eBay ones are made from non-faulty resin like the OEM ones and should last the life of the vehicle).

THANK YOU!!! Now that is an afforable fix! I appreciate that. Now you wouldn't happen to know where to find replacement buttons for the driver information center on the center console would you?!?

That solution has been available for almost 3 years now and is a derivative of the denlorstools link provided above in 2011. As for the information center buttons, there's a vendor on here that deal with LED replacements behind the buttons, but if you're looking for the buttons themselves, I'd try car-part.com and pick up a used set on the cheap.
