Re: 2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo, towing capacity

WTF, how can you guys only can tow 3500 when I can tow 5000?

On another note, if your car (or any other 3.7L WK) comes with a class 2 hitch from the factory DO NOT "upgrade" it to a class 3 and DO NOT tow more than what Jeep tells you too.

Re: 2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo, towing capacity

Towing is not all about the engine. Its also about suspension and control.

If you get a weight distributing hitch you can tow more then someone w/o.

If you get air bags like mine that mount inside the coil you can tow more. (firestone ride rite air bags ) They help with keeping the rear end from sagging under weight and boost the max tongue limit.

If you have tow haul mode you can tow more because it changes the trans shift points for better towing.

if you have electric brakes you can tow more.

Obviously if you have a bigger engine you can tow more but if the body/suspension/trailer are not setup right you can put your self and others in danger.

There are tons of factors involved in towing. BUT I Still WILL NOT EXCEED WHAT THE MANUAL SAYS!

For me, I have a 4.7 V8, Tow haul mode, Electric brake controller and Firestone ride rite air bags. That does not mean i can tow more then the listed 6800lb GVWR but it means i can tow that Max 6800lbs ALOT easier and Safer then someone else.

If i had a 3.7 V6 WK, i would do all the same things and then id say its ok to tow a 5000lb trailer but i think that might be pushing it for that engine.

Stick to the owners manual. The Ratings are there for a reason. If you dont believe that then search online or ask U Haul what they will alow you to tow with that jeep.

But if you don't have the right rear end, your also not going to tow a lot of weight. Maybe I worded my last statement wrong, I was mainly talking about the rear end radio, I thought the WK and the KK had the same rear end. Plus I'm also shocked since you guys have a 5 speed and I only have a 4 speed.

Your right. They Do have the 8.25 rear end just different bolt pattern and width. Also WKs come with 3:73 gears in most models but i think most KKs come with 3:55s like the Xjs did. So in that case it would be a bit better to tow with a WK then a KK but the KK can still handle 3500lbs id say.

No, what I'm saying is that Jeep said that I can tow 5000K pounds with the trailer pkg. You would think that the WK can tow more or at least the same amount of weight as the KK.

White Chocolate is an unknown quantity at this point
Re: 2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo, towing capacity

If you want to tow, buy the 4.7L or the 5.7L....its rated to tow.

simple as that, nuff said.

when you start pulling more then required from the 3.7L your asking for problems
