2007 Commander transmission down shifting

Bought a 2007 Commander 4.7 Flex fuel 2wd back in January. in the 4 months that I have had it I have had a problem with the transmission down shifting into 4th gear and sticking there? Driving along at highway speeds it will something downshift into 4th and stay there. Only way to get it out of 4th in to stop, place it back in park, turn engine off, then restart engine?

Help, Help!!

Re: 2007 Commander transmission down shifting

No check engine light on? If the TCM finds a fault, it should light up the check engine light. Are you sure its in 4th gear and not in 3rd (limp home mode)? After you switch ignition off and start again, it will go into 5th gear?
But even if no check engine light is on, i would first take it to some place where they can put a scanner on it to see if the TCM has set any code. If nothing comes out of that, i would start by changing the TPS.

Engine light did come on, but wasn't on this morning? Took it to the shop and they scanned it. Said it's the transmission solenoid pack. $750 to fix it, that includes new filter and fluid too.

Re: 2007 Commander transmission down shifting

Did they give you the fault code(s)? A new solenoid block costs around $270, filters probably some $30 and 6 Qts of ATF+4. Seems a bit steep what they charge you.
