2008 HID Conversion Recommendations

I just purchased a 2008 WK Limited. Sadly this particular one doesn't have the HID headlights and I miss having them. This Jeep replaced a 2007 335i and I got used to having HID lights from two years of driving the BMW.

So, I'm considering putting an aftermarket HID kit into the new truck. What do you folks recommend for a good aftermarket HID kit and how difficult is the installation? Also, I have the automatic high beams in this truck and would like to know if the aftermarket HID lights will work with this feature.

Thanks!

Re: 2008 HID Conversion Recommendations

Great choice going back to the HIDs. There are a ton of vendors out there, but a couple that are members of this site. I have bought several sets from baja hid(look in the vendors forum) and have been very pleased with their service. By nature HIDs are prone to failure so I found that having a direct line to the person I bought them from was much better than saving $15 and having to deal with a Return Representative from a corporation. I have been burned in the past and will never go back to ebay kits.

More than likely you will have some flicker when you install, so be sure to get a relay. I have actually had to use two; one for each headlight. Thankfully they are not too expensive.

I personally only have to low beams, so I cant answer your question about automatic high beams. My hesitation is that the HID take several seconds to warm up and constant flashing on and off would not work very well.

I do want to do the fog lights soon and maybe you could get a great package price on highs/lows/fogs.

Also there are several topics on this subject, try the search feature, it works great.

GOOD LUCK!!!

Re: 2008 HID Conversion Recommendations

do not mess with aftermarket kits, they look bad and blind other drivers. get some OEM projector HIDS for a 08-10 WK. they look great and keep the light on the road like your bmw. all you have to do to make them work is follow this..........

How to Ver2: make 2008 HID WK headlights plug and play on 05-07 WK's

hid fogs look great but the highs are not really needed and will have a slow response time when warming up with the auto feature so i would not recommend them.

Re: 2008 HID Conversion Recommendations

If I had a 2008 - 2010 WK, I'd put the OEM HID projectors on with aftermarket bulbs. Something like 6,000K.

There is nothing wrong with aftermarket HID's.

Re: 2008 HID Conversion Recommendations

I would recommend PM ing Scottina06 for HID suggestions. He has a habit of finding OEM HID headlights and making them a plug and play. I was fortunate enough to buy a set from him. They are great!!!!

Yea the light is scattered since there are no projectors. They're def bright too but they should be, they're HIDs. They're def not meant go in halogen lamps but we all do it. Here my 5000k lows and fogs. I love them so!!

Don't mind my super bright PIAAs

yes, HIDs are illegal in halogen housings. they are really inconsiderate to other drivers and scatter all over. HIDs belong in projectors to keep the light on the road and not in other drivers eyes. i had them for one night and took them out because i felt like a jerk driving with them behind other people. projectors are just as bright, but they put the light on the road. this is a cell phone pic, but you can see the beam pattern instead of the scatter coming from the fog light housing.

HIDs are illegal in halogen housings, but not meant for just projectors, my moms escalade has HIDs in a reflective housing

Re: 2008 HID Conversion Recommendations

Whatever. HID's are on the old Nissan Maximas, Cadillac Escalades, and so on. And they all don't have HID projectors.

Inconsiderate my ass. If you aim your lights at the street then the would hit the street. What people fail to realize is that vehicles that are high off the ground like trucks, SUV's, and Jeeps are more likely to beam through the windshield of cars that are lower to the ground.

I've had HID's in my WK since I bought it back in 2006 and I've never been flashed.
